What actually happens at the 1Cor.15 event. Where do you believe we are going after meeting Christ in the air? When does it take place?

I believe that 1 Cor. 15:52 refers to the rapture of Christians. Jesus will come catch up the Church(christians), and return to Heaven with the church. I Thess 4:16-18 supports this teaching. For the record, I am a Protestant and this Pretribulation/Rapture doctrine is taught in some (not all) denominations. I don’t know whether the Catholic Church agrees with this doctrine or not.

Catholic doctrine holds that if one dies before the second coming of Christ, he will receive his resurrected body in Heaven upon that second coming. If one is still alive at the time of the second coming, he will (assuming he is bound for Heaven) rise with his body. This is what that particular section of St. Paul’s letter is referring to.

Ive already look into the rapture and according to scripture its just not there as the “left behind” books would have you to believe. 1st of all theres a problem with the last trumpet.
1COR.15 [50] Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.[51] Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,[52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, AT THE LAST TRUMP: FOR THE TRUMPET SHALL SOUND, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.[53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.[54] So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
The above scripture points out that “we shall all be changed” as the LAST TRUMPET is blown.
MATTHEW 24 [29]IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TRIBULATION of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: [30] And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. [31] And he shall send his angels with A GREAT SOUND OF A TRUMPET, and THEY SHALL GATHER TOGETHER HIS ELECT from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Here we find a trumpet being blown after the tribulation period. No matter how ya figure it, you cannot have the LAST TRUMPET being blown before the tribulation (as the left behind books claim) or at mid tribulation if a trumpet is being blown AFTER the tribulation.

Chowman, thanks for the information. I saw two preachers debate pre-trib & post trib on tv one night. The post tribulation guy referenced the meaning of that verse too.

By the way there is no such religion as “alter boy”, and if you are saying you are a server at the altar in a Catholic Mass then it should be altar (not alter) boy.

The Glorified Resurrected will rise up, greet Christ in the air, and return to the glorified Earth. I had one friend explain it to me that you can see comparisons between this verse and the Triumph in Roman context. In a Triumph, the people would leave the city, greet the victor, and then return to the city. Same context, but in this case, the “people” are the Glorified Resurrected, the “victor” is Christ (obviously), and the “city” is Earth. It makes a lot of sense.

The problem, aside from Pretribulation theology in general, is that Heaven isn’t the final stop. The final stop is the glorified Earth (which isn’t a “second” Earth. The Earth of today isn’t going to be destroyed and replaced with a brand new Earth, it’s the same Earth, merely glorified). Heaven, in the sense of “up there, not here” Heaven, is merely a last pit stop before the final home of the Resurrected.I believe that 1 Cor. 15:52 refers to the rapture of Christians.
