I’m getting married in November and have two questions:
  1. Heard a priest some years ago say this verse is not refering to nuptial love (for lack of a better term) but to something else. Can anyone confirm the true meaning of this verse, that we hear so often at weddings?
  2. Does anyone have any other suggestions for scripture at weddings? Thank you

The priest was pointing out that the text applies in every instance for Christians, and human beings.

What the priest meant is that it applies to all aspects and kinds of human relationships, not just marriage. But the scripture very importantly does include Marriage, one of the most basic of human relationships.

I hope you will not exclude this wonderful inspiring text which tells us how as marriage partners we should love each other, on the basis that a priest did not fully explain the application of the scripture. It very, very much applies to marriage, even if not exclusively!

if you would like some verses from a satanic marriage book i can get you those?
ALL HAIL SATAN

To an extent your Priest is right in that Paul is not refering to Nuptual Love specifically but to a broader Love, a brotherly Christian Love.
However This does not exlude the sentiments involved in the Love you feel for your betrothed. So if you wish to use this passage (as many do) feel free to do so.

As for other passages I goggled (well binged) the words Wedding Bible readings and got many results.

Good luck on your wedding plans and may God bless you and your intended.

Peace
James

Try the book of Tobias. I don’t have the exact verses, but it was used at my sister’s wedding

1 Cor 13 was not written to refer to specifically nuptial love.

For suggested readings, see the Catholic Rite of Marriage.

UPDATE

So my Fiance and I had our second marriage prep class last friday night and you’ll never guess what scripture was included in our closing prayer.

Yup, 1 Corinthians 13. LOL

Thank you to everyone for their responses.
