women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says.

But if they want to learn anything, they should ask their husbands at home. For it is improper for a woman to speak in the church.

What are we to think about this? Isn’t this a wrong way of treating women?

The words are inspired by the Holy Spirit for our instruction; there cannot be anything wrong with them. They are free from error. Today’s world blurs the distinction between men and women in the name of equality. The Scripture does not. No greater dignity is placed upon men than upon women in Scripture, but the roles are notably different and have been since God’s pronouncement in Eden. What man would aspire to the dignity of Mary? But her role was that of mother, a role fulfilled exceptionally.
We tend to think that equality should extend to every aspect of life. Why? This has led us to homosexual marriages (If men and women are equal why can’t I marry a man?), to mention just one glaring social ill.
When social norms vary from the biblical norms, it might be a wise move to consider the real justifications for those social norms. What is put forth as societal growth may well be a societal aberration…

Words that are beautiful, deep, and true, from the Holy Spirit.

Worthwhile meditating on and taking into the soul, so as to understand how God made people.

It may refer to woman being excluded from the teaching ministry exercised by ordained clergy. It can’t be an absolute prohibition because women pray and prophesy in the liturgical assembly (1 Cor 11:5).
