29 .*Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptised for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptised for them? *

What is this sentence pointing out?

Also :

**42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: ‘The first man Adam became a living being’[f]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we[g] bear the image of the heavenly man.

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed – 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’[h]

55 ‘Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?’*

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.**

So, when the resurrection happens, it’s our spiritual body that we will be raised as, not a new flesh body and spirit?

48 and 49. Says we are made like the earthly man, and some are of the heavenly, but how can anyone be of the heavenly? We are all made in Gods image as humans, as it says in genesis, yet this passage seems to say some are earthly some are heavenly, but we will bear the heavenly image?

In this section, Saint Paul compares our bodies, or somas, to a seed.

A seed is not the living plant, but it’s genetic structure is embodied into the living plant.

The seed itself does not survive or remain intact in the formation of the new life. Rather, it is consumed in the process of germination.

Likewise, our human body or psychikon soma will not survive the entry into life everlasting, and will lose its form; but the body’s life and form will go into our pneumatikon soma, spiritual body.

Christ rose with the same material body that he died in and our resurrection will be patterned after his. The apostles and the women went to the tomb where Christ’s body was laid on the first Eastern morning, and Christ’s body was not there for he raised it up and brought it to life. At the resurrection though, our material bodies will not be subject to corruption as they now are but they will be imperishable through the power of God just as Adam and Eve would not have died a bodily death if they had not sinned.

With out Jesus rising from the dead then our belief in the resurrection of our own bodies is a myth and baptism and all our beliefs are useless, and we are the biggest of fools for believing. We are the “Resurrection People” because Jesus did rise from the dead. Easter is considered the greatest Feast Day of the Church. It is the promise and the proof of Life Everlasting with God.

The footnote to the above verse in the New Jerusalem Bible says “What this practice was is unknown. Paul does not say whether he approved of it or not, he merely says that it is absurd if the dead do not rise again.”
 
A further note: St.Paul concludes his treatment of logical inconsistencies with a listing of miscellaneous Christian practices that would be meaningless if the resurrection were not a fact, Baptized for the dead is a practice not explained, nor is it necessarily mentioned with approval but Paul cites it as something in their experience that attests in one more way to belief in the resurrection (The New American Bible)
