1 Corinthians 7:14...Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy

In what sense are the children of the unbelievers unclean?
Unclean in the sense that unbelieving parents have not baptized and taught the Truth, leaving the stain of original sin unabsolved.

This uncleanliness, in the case of children or others who have not been exposed to the Light of the Truth, should not be interpreted as personal sins, but rather circumstance…even unbelieving parents who have not had the opportunity to be witnessed to are not at fault for not teaching their children.

The Old Testament, for example, is very categorical in separating the faithful from the unfaithful. In the historical books of the Bible we may cite the importance of this separation.
That is, this verse expression has nothing to do with the beliefs of radical Islamists like ISIS, who consider all unbelievers as “fuel for hell,” and I heard that ISIS even forced women of other confessions to have abortions.
That is, Christianity does not take away the dignity of unbelieving families, and obviously does not consider them as " fuel for hell".

I think that what we have are two distinct visions.

When St. Paul speaks of the children between Believers and non-Believers he is speaking to what was transpiring at the formation of the Church.

Believers are called to become imitators of Christ (alter Christos); they are to embrace Christ’s Teachings, hence they must give up that which is of the world. However, unlike me (born of a Catholic mom) they were converts (Judaism, Paganism, atheism); so St. Paul is admonishing them to not seek a divorce/separation from their spouses who are not Believers.

If this were to happen both the non-Believer spouses and the children might lose the opportunity to learn about Christ and become Christians.

The Catholic Church has maintained Apostolic Teaching as she sees the wisdom in not condemning man but seeking to bring him to the fold.

What you describe as ISIS behavior is done for two reasons: blind faith in what they believe is a just cause and a means to punish those who are not believers on their terms. It is a mechanism used to empower themselves and to excuse their ravenous and malicious behavior in the guise of “purity.”

All abusers use the same tactics: ‘I love you; but you make me hurt/kill you.’ The blame is always placed on their victims!

I think that the black and white perception of the world , and the division of humanity into their own and others is not only Muslims , but also Christians, especially fundamentalists Christians.
Zelous Muslims who live in Western countries sometimes immediately turn their eyes away from the infidel, and when they see their brother , they meet him with a smile.
It seems to me that something like that have in their manners the Mennonites, Independent Fundamentalist Evangelicals.
Yes, it is true that Christ said, " whoever does my will is my mother and sister and brother."
But it seems to me that today only Jesuits, at the academic level, catholic missions which function in Eastern and African countries, and some successful interfaith youth communities, all of them make attempts to reach the souls of the modern world.
But separated communities, such as the Menonites, Amish, are certainly fruitful in inner holiness, but there is a distinct division of people into their own and others, sheeps and goats.
And even in Christianity, unfortunately, is inherent in the hidden elitist pride of its uniqueness and peculiarities, which by the way often does not allow mixed marriages.

For example , in the post Soviet space, evangelists cannot marry a representative of another faith. Baptists and Pentecostals can somehow get along together, but the rest of the denominations require full and official conversion to their faith, and only then can they bless the marriage alliance.
Orthodoxy in the face of priests very often denounces and criticizes, the attempts to associate themselves by marriage alliance with representatives of other faiths, the alliance is justified only by the partner’s conversion to Orthodoxy.

In the Orthodoxy there is a conflict between Patriarchates, and also there are cases when you are not blessed with a marriage union with a partner from another Patriarchate.

Yet, there’s a distinct measure of mix; any Christian (Catholic or non) who marries a non-Believer or a Believer in a non-Christian Faith runs the risk of either bring up anti-Christian or anti-God children and renouncing Christ altogether.

Racial/economic mix, well that’s a different situation. Any Christian can marry any person of any race and of any economic status–holding these as measure of candidacy is racist and elitist (anti-Christ).

…again, this can be understood by the dictate of Faith. Many times when Catholics marry into other religions they either loose their identity, embrace the non-Catholic or give their children up to the non-Catholic religion (it is what happens); sometimes children of mixed religions suffer extremely because both parents want their children to have their own Faith base/understanding… hollowood is inspirational in showing how a Jewish child is twice blessed as he/she gets presents for both the Christian and the Jewish celebrations… it seldom goes into the nitty-gritty existence of those children who are compelled by their parents to “choose” or who are bombarded with the responsibility of keeping both parents happy as they embrace dichotomy and, internally, self-destroy.

That is your argument clear and obvious message for Christians. (1) in any case a Christian should not communicate in marriage with an unbeliever (2) The Christian should not join in marriage with infidels.
That is, the arguments should be clear for those who are looking for companions of life.😊

Yet, the fact that people continue to seek approval for their mix marriages (not racial mix but religious mix) is proof that people will do what they will (tunnel vision) and will appeal to God to demonstrate that that’s not His Will (you know: do what they want yet claim it is God’s blessing… till the turmoil starts or till the lukewarmness engulfs them).

It goes with the old “grain of salt” thing!

There are biblical characters who clearly demonstrate how harmful the influence of pagan women is.
Although women are called a feeble vessel, men have weaknesses that can only be countered with a spiritual wife, but not with a secular pagan wife.
The mentality, values, priorities of the worldly woman contradict the idea of the family as the house-building of God.

Sadly, “Christian” women are following on the footsteps of the secular women–seeking self rather than family and God.
