1 Kings 20:35 Need Help

I could really use some help explaining 1 Kings 20:35 to others. I understand it, but I just cannot say it in words. Please help. Thank you.
 
Which version? Catholic: [BIBLEDRB]1 Kings 20:35-36[/BIBLEDRB]

Or protestant?:
1 Kings 20:35-36 (King James Version|)
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the Lord, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

36 Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the Lord, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

WHAT??? Now explain why those are so different.
This has created a mess on my desk. I have my Douay-Rheims and my New American Bible by Catholic Press scattered all over. Both are Catholic bibles and Kings is different in them, what about the rest of the old testament books?

If the passage 1 Kings 20:35 is from a KJV, It will be 3 Kings 20:35 in the DR
 
Whew! Thank you for clarifying for me… i guess protestants need training on utilizing Catholic Bibles…:o
 
From the Haydock commentary: “Ver. 35. In the word, or by the authority. The person who refused to comply, out of a false compassion, displeased God. The wound of the prophet was a symbol of what would happen to Achab. It was a prophetic action, chap. xi. 30. (Calmet)”

It would 1 Kings 20:35-36 KJV or 3 Kings 20:35-36 DR:

It pre-supposes that the man knew the instruction was from God and he refused to strike (which was effectually thwarting God’s plan). Calmet implies the man disobeyed under the guise of being compassionate. Chrysostom gives some commentary in homily 2 on the letter of Romans (check v.17). Here’s a link:
