1 Samuel 10:22

In 1 Samuel 10:22 after Saul has been designated king for the Israelites, he is nowhere to be found. When they ask the Lord where he is, the Lord responds by letting them know that Saul is hiding among the baggage.

The Bible commentaries that I found said that it was because he was humble that he was in hiding.

When meditating on this passage I was reminded of Adam and Eve in the garden after they had eaten the forbidden fruit, and they were hiding from God. They hid because of their shame.

I wonder if Saul was hiding from God and the people because of shame?

People hide for other reasons too, Jonah wanted to hide from the Lord because he did not want to be a prophet to Nineveh. It could be that Saul did not really want to be king ( not necessarily humility) I’ve heard some Popes became Pope somewhat reluctantly since they did not want all the responsibility.

Hebrew, “he hath hidden himself among the stuff,” (Haydock) instruments, or baggage, at Masphath. He acted thus out of modesty, judging himself unfit for the exalted dignity, (Calmet) and shewed that he did not seek for it. (Menochius)

I do like your comparision between Saul and Adam hiding in the garden.
