I recently emailed a site called good news for Catholics .com. This site specializes in materials to take Catholics away from their faith. I was chairatible but asked them to examine the true teaching of our Church. This sparket several emails back and forth. Here’s the latest reply back. I’m particularly interested in the scripture they sited 1Timothy 4:1-3. I guess the infrence they are trying to make is that the Catholic Church is or will be in Apostasy. Any help would be appreciated. - Michael

I think I answered the question about why the Catholic Church is Christ’s Church.

Michael, Thanks for your thoughtful reply. You say our error is pulling people away from the church Christ instituted. Okay, that would be wrong. . . if the Catholic Church is that church. . . . and if that church has not fallen away from the truth and forsaken Christ and His gospel. I’m sure you are aware that the Scriptures predict a great apostasy in the end times (see below). The Catholic Church also is aware that in the end times many will fall away from the truth. But let’s start with the first point: Why do you think the Catholic Church is the church Christ instituted?

But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, 3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.

Well the CC didn’t fall away from anything. OTOH, the Reformers et al surely did!

“you [Peter] are Rock and upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” - Jesus Christ, Lord and God.

That verse says that many will fall away, it doesn’t say that the CHURCH will teach in error. We have certainly see many fall away from the teaching of the church, preferring the doctrines that better fit their lives and conveniences. Still, Scripture says (as was quoted by Canto) that the Church will never fail.
