  1. Muslims, with us, worship the One True God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
  2. Muslims have a strong sense of the sacredness of God, and are rightfully fearful of His power.
  3. Muslims stand firm with us against the tide of secular humanism and the evils of relativism.
  4. Muslims very rightly will not tolerate false gods to be placed above the One True God.
  5. Muslims understand the absolute virtues of humility, courage, and chastity.
  6. Muslims rightly insist that we owe God our worship and complete life-long service.
  7. Muslims understand that one of the greatest things that we can do to thank God for our existance is to pray, fervently and constantly.
  8. Muslims treat members of their faith like brothers, and strive to take care of the members of their common faith.
  9. Muslims understand the importance of tradition in faith.
  10. Muslims are taught to instruct others with patience, justice, and humility.
I encourage fellow Christians to add to this list things they like about Islam.

I also ask any Muslim to join with me and list some things you like about Catholics.

Positive responses only, please.

Peace be with all of you,

Although you mentioned this as one of yours, I really respect Muslim piety.

They show such respect for God, and fear Him (rightly so). I think that is beautiful.

Also, I’ve noticed quite a few on this board who are genuinely concerned with the truth. They also wish to be moral and to follow what it is God wants out of them. They have a fervent faith and a zeal for it as well. I deeply respect that.

I like this thread.

Traditional Muslims have a respect for Christ. Many have told me of their prayers to Him.

I like the Muslim commitment to charity, evangelization of their faith and daily witness. I like the way many of them study their religion.

We must remember also that while many Christian groups in the developing nations wanted to provide quick and easy ways to kill babies the Muslims stood with Pope John Paul the Great in opposing it at the Beijing Conference in 1995.

Hi RyanL,

Sorry to say that the Muslims do not worship the same God as Christians worship. The Muslims believe in a god that is not the Triune God.

This I can agree with to a point.

Agreed.

RyanL:

Once again the Muslim god is not the God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit from the Scriptures. God is three persons - one being. The Muslim god is one person - one being).

Not to sure about this one.

RyanL:

True, but Muslims do not believe that you can “know” God or who He is, all they believe is that one can know His “will” and know His “laws”.

They do this in a legalistic state.

I disagree 100% on this one. Muslims believe and treat women as a lesser person.

Any examples?

RyanL:

I disagree. Even though most of the Muslims we know here in America are very peaceful, Islam is pretty much spread through history by the sword.

Praise be to God!

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for starting this thread. How charitable of you.

I like the way Muslims begin their posts with “Praise be to Allah” (praise God) and every time they mention a prophet, it is followed with (peace be upon him) and when they end a post, it is with, “Wasalam” (in peace).

I like that they are focused on devotion to The Creator of the universe and make efforts to pray, in humility, 5 times a day to thank Him and ask for His guidance, on the “straight path”.

I like that they believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah and that He will return on the last day.

I respect they do not believe Jesus is God, because of their fear of offending God.

Thanks for posting and asking and, peace be to you,

Elizabeth

They should have a blushing face b/c I’d use it here.

you know as a muslim on this board it does sometimes seem like there is a bitter taste for you all when you think about islam (Rics post below comes to mind 😛 ) but after reading this I am sitting here smiling thinking wow these are nice people I shouldn’t be so bitter myself.

Here are some things I like about Christians:

I admire that you all stand up for what you believe in despite how anti-pop-culture it becomes, that you do not have shame for your religion.

I admire your devotion to missions. Many teenagers in my school are leaving this summer to go to places like Kenya and such for their ‘mission trip’. I wish muslims were willing to give up their social lives for the same opportunity.

I admire your love of God. If I am not mistaken than in the Christian idea of heaven there aren’t as many material payoffs and the main payoff is a closeness with God, and you all are willing to live lives of devotion for just this.

I admire your charity. If it weren’t for churches and christians than many many people would never have gotten the chance to get back on their feet. Sometimes a warm meal and a clean shower is life changing.

I admire your respect. I like that when you all go to church you dress well, I like that a devout christian is a friendly neighbor, I like that you all respect each other as well as non-christians.

As for my response to Ric (sorry to spoil the moment but I have to 😦 )

A) the majority of converts to Islam in the US are women. I dont mean people that are muslim for a day and then dont like it, I mean people that stick to it.

B) Our God is your God, holy trinity or not. We believe in the God that gave Moses his message, same with Abraham, same with Jesus.

C) All we know about God is what he has told us. However, what RyanL said is 100% correct about a life of devotion and such.

D) how do we pray in a legalistic state? Our salat is supposed to be an other-wordly state where we are to picture ourselves standing in front of God himself and project the due respect, but I dont know how its really that different from a deep heart felt christian prayer.

E) Muslims rarely had to kill anyone at all. This is how it is done ‘by the sword’.

Line up along the countries borders. Tell them they can either get attacked, convert to Islam, or if they want to live in the Islamic state then they have to agree to pay their taxes to the Islamic gov’t and they will be allowed to live exactly as they had before, often with their previous religious courts and juries all still in tact, daily life hardly affected. Almost all accepted the third condition, and after seeing what a fair and just gov’t the Islamic one was ended up converting on their own.

F) Ask a muslim women if she is treated fairly. Ask a convert if youre going to say a girl who is brought up muslim is brainwashed. Islam actually gives a lot of lenience to women that is not given to men, however the media likes to say things with a little twist.

Peace upon all of you! I love you! (as long as you keep making threads like this 😛 😃 😛 )

Awwww… GROUP HUG! 😃 (j/k)

Anyway I may add to this thread later but I need to go to class!

Praise the Lord!

I love the muslim friends I have been in contact, especially from whyislam.org .
I love that as you respond/question, etc. them in a humble, polite, honest, Christ like manner, they respect you.

I like that they are believers in the One God, the creator.

In His peace.
Your brother,
Luigi

One of the things I like about Islam is: They actually punish
criminals and homosexuals. What a novel idea! 😃

Ryan,

I salute you for starting a thread that will hopefully help in bridging the gap with our Muslim friends. May God bless you for this. Good thinking man!

I will just add a few (if it they have not been mentioned yet 😉 ) that I like about Islam :
  • Islam respects all the prophets of God
  • Islam gives a very high status to Mother Mary
  • Islam is our partner in promoting morals and values
  • Islam has many ways or training its followers to be God-conscious (e.g. 5 daily prayers, a month of fasting, supplications for many actions in their daily routine )
  • Islam considers Christians (people of the book) to be the nearest to the Muslims.
strivin,

Yeah! Islam scares the s**t out of the evil elements of the society. I remember another Christian from an asian country who wished that *Islamic law * be implemented in their land because they are sick and tired of major crimes like rape and murder.

Being on this forum is the first time I have had contact with Catholics. I don’t have an impression yet but what I have seen so far is extraordinary. 👍

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

I enjoy speaking to catholics, and a good example is with a very nice catholic by the name of Sraphine, she gives me a good understanding of who catholics are and what catholics believe. Before, I didn’t know much about Catholics. I think you guys are very dedicated to your beliefs and faith 👍 .

Your forum have very good examples of who catholics are LuigiColetta and Benrosa :clapping: these two are very nice. And RyanL, very good idea, May God reward you for your efforts. :clapping:

Ric (and anyone else who read this),

Just so you know, your position is not the position of the Catholic Church. If you would call yourself Catholic, you need to be faithful to the teachings of the Church. You cannot pick and choose what you like or don’t like, as Truth never has nor never will be decided by consensus.

Catechism of the Catholic Church:
841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day."
Again, please limit responses to positive comments only.

Peace be with you,
RyanL

May I just add something to Ryan’s quote about the position of the CC regarding the Muslims:

“Christians and Muslims have many things in common, as believers and as human beings. We live in the same world, marked by many signs of hope, but also by multiple signs of anguish. For us, Abraham is a model of faith in God, of submission to his will and of confidence in his goodness. We believe in the same God, the one God, the living God, the God who created the world and brings his creatures to their perfection.”

-John Paul II to the young Muslims of Morocco, August 19, 1985

Despite what the Catechism says, Catholics believe in the Holy Trinity while Muslims do not. I believe it says in the Quran (and please correct me if I’m wrong):

5:73 They disbelieved who say: Allah is one of three (in a Trinity): for there is no god except One God. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous chastisement will befall the disbelievers among them.

I’m not saying the Catechism is wrong, I just don’t know how to reconcile what it says with the difference in belief of the Holy Trinity. Someone can enlighten me. I agree with most of the other points Ryan L made.
