Ten Ways to Show Your Husband Respect
taken from www.growthtrac.com

• Ask for his opinion
• Tell others where he excels
• Listen to his ideas
• Prepare his favorite meal
• Don’t mother him
• Encourage his interests
• Give him time to be alone
• Say ‘thank you’ often
• Respond to his touch
• Let him be himself

Can you think of anymore??

-return his stuff to where ya got it

-he controls the clicker

-don’t bow up every time the guy in front applies his brakes,
and say “Look out”

-every house needs a boys and girls bath

-don’t tawk to me when I’m on the phone, can’t process 2 conversatons at once

*-dont *eat the last ice cream sandwich

-don’t change conversations mid stream
  • when I’m telling our friends a story, don’t keep jumping in adding stuff and cutting me off
All I can think of right now

Something that has always made the guys around me feel more appreciated is when I ask them to do things for me or help me with something. Particularly with killing spiders and bugs. I am deathly afraid of them, and if it gives a guy a chance to play the hero, well, hey. 😛 I think that is a pretty basic thing all people like, though–the feeling of helping others.

  1. Trust him
  2. Pray for him daily and go together to church
  3. Say thank you, even for little things
  4. Have a hot meal waiting when he arrives home
  5. Make sure your home is a place of rest and relaxation
  6. Ask for his help , let him be your hero
  7. Don’t expect him to remember everything you like
  8. Do not threaten “divorce” as a way to make him “come around”´
  9. Do not blame him for your bad day
10.Praise his actions to others and express your love and respect
Respect ( beside faithfulness , forgiveness and true love ) is the most simply way for a happy family life

They should all be carved in stone!!!

bama knows

do not cut him off in the middle of some important statement he has finally decided to share with you. next time it will be 5 years instead of 6 months before he confides in you.

do not ever criticize him in front of others, especially your mother, sisters, or God forbid, your kids, you want to dig, dig on your own time.

do not make fun of the way he dances, or that is the last time he will ever ask you to dance and you will be sitting it out at every wedding from now on to eternity

acknowledge his expertise in the area where he is an expert, and don’t second guess or monday morning quarterback his actions in those areas.

in areas where he is not an expert, when he does “help”, show him how if he asks, but let him go for it if he wants to experiment, and do not, never, ever, criticize his efforts (if you can’t say something nice, shuddup). and NEVER re-do the task–to not vacuum where he has just cleaned, remake the bed, reload the dishwasher, or throw out the pancakes and make a new batch. NEVER do this. ever. don’t do it to your kids either. teach them the proper way, but let them learn by OJT

do not involve your own relatives or in-laws in marital and child-rearing disputes. None of their business. you don’t need to take a poll to resolve an issue between you. If you must get advice, get it from professionals, not from people whose marriage and kids are not any better than yours.

on the same note, there are 3 parties to your marriage, you, spouse and Jesus. That does not include your sister or best friend, so they have no right to share in any confidence that belongs to the two of you. That includes and refers most especially to what happens between the sheets.

Wow, what great advice!

I think that a simple way to show your husband, or anyone for that manner, respect, would be to praise him for the things that he does around the house. So, if your hubby remembers to take out the trash either thank him or tell him how much you appreciate that he remembers to do so.

I’d like to see a book on marriage, children, and family life written by the collaborative efforts of puzzleannie, Bama, 1ke, and monicatholic. I think it would make a heck of a read.

annie can be in charge of wisdom and common sense, Guy can do humor and husband and wife day to day stuff and dialogue, 1ke can be the reference person, and monicatholic the child rearing and spiritual guidance person.

what do y’all think?😃

malia, thanks, but how about you too dear…lord knows you are persevering as we speak;) :hug1:

Ok I’ll add something…though it’s been awhile since I’ve dealth with marital stuff, how about letting hubby think he’s a great handyman and wait until he’s at work to call the REAL handyman (or just fix it yourself…😛 )

Wonderful stuff! Annie, as usual, hit the nail on the head with the big stuff. 👍
All I can do is re-iterate–your marriage is YOUR marriage, not your mother’s!!! She had her chance, so leave her to her own, and do NOT let her get involved in yours!!!

😃 My dh would agree about the remote, but we sometimes watch tv in separate rooms if it’s really something we like to see…or we compromise and agree to watch one another’s shows of interest. It works sometimes. My dh works a lot of night hours, so when we are together, we are not interested in the remote, really. lol;)

I think a way to respect one’s husband…is to not discuss problematic things as soon as he arrives home from work. I arrive home from work, and I can talk a blue streak, but my husband likes to unwind…look at bills…crack open a beer from time to time…and then, he is all ears. It took a few years for me to ‘get this’ about him.

Another way is to give him a nice back rub. My husband really likes this, and no words are necessary.🙂

One more way that comes to mind, is to not argue against his discipline with the kids. (of course, this doesn’t apply if your husband is abusive) This used to be a sore subject with my husband and me…he would hand down a punishment, and I would jump in and be the kids’ savior. It really hurt our marriage a lot back then. Now, I defer to my husband. The kids at first tested me, but now, they know…if their dad comes up with a resolution to something, whether it be punishment or not–it’s final. The same goes actually when I feel they deserve discpline over something…he defers to me. It’s about being cohesive and one that makes all the difference, in all areas of marriage.👍
