Is there a country that is 100% Catholic? By this I mean a country where abortion is illegal, where contraception is illegal, and where homosexuality is illegal. I doubt that this country exists but is there one that is close?

Is there a country that has Catholicism as the official state religion? (Excluding the Vatican state).

How about another question: What is the most Catholic country in terms of it’s laws, governance, beliefs etc

Once upon a time, Ireland used to be that way. I know that in the 1940s, one had to go to England to buy contraceptives, and until a little while ago (perhaps the last twenty years – this is a guestimate, at besst) it was illegal to have an abortion for means of convenience. There used to be these ships that would come up to the shore that women could board to have the procedure done. That’s not the case anymore, and it’s a shame. I don’t think that back-alley abortions are the way to go, either, but the fact that the country no longer stands for protecting the rights of our most innocent…

And, I believe that East Timor, a small island country in Micronesia, is about 90% Catholic, though I am not sure about the regulations, etc., but it’s a new country. I believe they gained their independence about five years ago. They probably don’t have the finer points figured out.

Malta has established Catholicism as the official state religion. It‘s a European Union country, so it provides for freedom of religion and there are limits as to how much Catholicism it may legislate. As far as I know there is no legal provision for civil divorce.

East Timor is in Indonesia, not Micronesia. 🙂
Actually, “Micronesia” itself is not a political entity – it is a geographic area of the Pacific ocean.

No, and in this day and age of easy travel, never will be. You would need a religious dictatorship…a theocracy…to keep people in line. You would have to forbid leaving the country, to prevent people from voting with their feet. Especially the homosexuals, non-Catholic Christians, Jews, Muslims, and other religions and spiritualities.

Plus women looking for safe abortion. You would have to forbid the internet with all its pornography and free thinking. Same for satelite TV and other media. Schools would have to be strictly structured.

Now, you might look into creating some sort of enclave, territory, or entity with your rules stated in advance, and see how many people want to join your utopia.

You know – this has got me thinking of Ave Maria, Florida. I’m very new on this site, so I am probably correct in guessing that that town / city development has been talked to death… If Tom Monaghan gets his way, Ave Maria would be 100% Catholic…

Are you talking about this…?

What would stop the people from going elsewhere for contraceptives, abortions, or anything else a bunch of Catholics would not approve of? :dts:

Nothing would – the only kind of utopia that’s ever existed like that was Eden …

But, we can either discuss semantics, or generalizations. Ave Maria is one man’s attempt at creating the first Catholic university in the US in who knows how long… It’s a nice concept, and I’m excited for it. If anyone has the money to do it, it’s him, and at least it’s going to something better than a private jet, another vacation home, etc., what-have-you.

Actually, Micronesia is now an independent country. My cousin works in the government there. (Although Guam and the Northern Marianas remain US territories, and Palau is also now it’s own country.)

I don’t know what the Government and all Laws Specifically are there, but Croatia is 95% Roman Catholic

Here is the Croatian Abortion Law
THE ABORTION LAW IN CROATIA

The article 21 of the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia (December 22, 1990) reads: “Every human being has the right to life. There is no death sentence in the Republic of Croatia”. Euthanasia and assisted suicide are prohibited by articles 94 (Killing on request) and 96 (Participation in suicide) of the Penal code (October 21, 1997). It means that all possibilities to take part in the termination of human life after birth are outlawed in Croatia.

Human life after birth … how is this an abortion law?

On the other hand – this makes me very proud of the home of my ancestors … I’m a 3rd generation American with 1/4 of my roots in Croatia! My grandfather spoke Croatian in the home – his family fled Yugoslavia in the early 20th century!

The United States is the most Catholic country on earth.

They have four popes! (Pius XIII, Gregory XIX, Michael I, and Peter II).

Italy only has three, even counting the one in Rome. 🤷

They should watch out, though: Belgium has *two *“Peter II’s”.

America: Go big, or go home! 👍

Mexico has in its consitution that the official religion of the state is the catholic apostolic faith…

im assuming it was meant to be a place very faithful to the church a true son/daughter of the church…but as things go…mexico became influence by the rest of the world now there is even abortion legalized in mexico city so…

😦 😦 😦
