In a May 4 audience with the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Pope Francis approved the publication of decrees that advance 12 beatification causes.

It takes a lot of money for the Vatican to investigate the “cause” of sainthood. There’s a definite bias towards those who can come up with the money and get the honors of the Church. I think the money is an absolute requirement.

Beatification/Canonization does not “push” anybody into heaven, as far as I can tell. I think it’s at least semi-political, to inspire people in all the countries of the world.

It seems heavily skewed towards priest and nuns, and Italy, and again money is a big factor. But, the modern trend has been towards more international recognition of saints. [p.s. yes, only 4 lay people in the list].

If I get to heaven, you don’t have to pray to me to get me to pray for you. I will pray for you all. I promise. I’m praying for all of you already.

There is a chance many of us will be in purgatory in need of prayers. 🤷

Yes the costs surrounding a cause can be expensive - though, I’m not sure I equate that to a bias towards anyone. Especially since martyrdom is a common reason for Sainthood and that doesn’t take as much to determine.
