apparently my feelings mean nothing. So I have no idea what I’m doing anymore. Nothing makes any sense, and everything seems to be eternal hell or abundant purgatory. Fr
When you change from one denomination to a different denomination. The rules change. Catholics have to educate the conscious with new facts. Kinda like alternative facts.

I just got a call and was asked to be a pallbearer at a funeral for an old friend (she’s was about 90). It’s during the time I scheduled confession. I accepted, I have to drive all the way back home to get there. I hope this is ok? I’m not trying to delay , but they had no one else to carry the casket.

It’s fine. Just reschedule it, but call to cancel. You are doing a really nice thing. 🙂

Well. I went to first confession. It ended up being 14 pages but only took about 30 minutes. I feel better, I have a little worry I didn’t get everything. Some thoughts have crept in “oh you forgot this! You didn’t say that correctly! You glossed over saying this! You generalized too much here!”. But, on the whole, I didn’t intentionally leave anything out. It was pretty hard to do. I’m thinking those thoughts will go away. I tried to give a good confession.

Very good! Don’t keep second guessing yourself at this point. You are forgiven.

I agree with @Irishmom2 about this you are forgiven time for the good things that you want to happen.

I’m not sure how detailed you’re being but for my first Confession I used a confession guide from Ignatius Press that included the option of penning things down in a list or journal. I went through every sin covered under every aspect of each commandment and my list was about 3 pages long, written.

So my penance was to go to a church every day for a week and pray for 15-20 minutes. Off to a great start, on my 3rd day, the church was locked and I went back to work. I went back to the church and it was still locked. I looked at times for other churches, and they all closed when I was supposed to get off of work. So I just sat on the doorstep of the church for the time and then went back to work. I’ll ask the priest, but I’ll try to go twice Friday or maybe add a day on the end. I wasn’t expecting the church to be locked. I work 6am-4pm

I am only a layman, but I strongly have to recommend against writing down your sins.

Just review your conscience. Review it mentally only. Be calm. Don’t panic. Don’t try to dissect each and every thing you’ve ever done. The “big things” will jump out at you, and you will know it instantly — no need to write anything down. People joke about confessions taking days and days, but in reality, no priest alive would expect you to make a multi-day confession. Just defer to the priest. Tell him you are scrupulous. Then put him in the driver’s seat. And when he says it’s done, it’s done. End of story. Move on.
