I have been really interested in Islam lately and while I was researching I came across this article what do you think about it? I found it an interesting connection it. 🤷

Well it is interesting. But they are TOTALLY wrong when saying there is no clear Biblical prophecy of the crucifixion. Both Jesus’s coming and death are foretold in over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament. Islam is a very interesting religion. They do share alot of our values. I have read the Koran before and found some good insights in there however, they do not understand our Scriptures very well and their interpretation of our Bible is usually not very credible. Is it fun to study and look at, yes, but If you are seeking to understand the Old Testament and how it is fulfilled in the New, Islamic interpretations are not going to help you.

I agree. I’ve noticed Muslims take a lot of scripture out of text to prove their point such as Jeremiah 8:8. I’m not sure about about the Jeremiah verse they were referring to but I doubt it has anything to do with Imam Hussain even though he died near the Euphrates.

Probably not. Scripture can be interpreted in thousands of ways. One has to have what one percieves as the truth and then view scripture in that lens.

A Message About Egypt

46 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations:

2 Concerning Egypt:

This is the message against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:

3 ā€œPrepare your shields, both large and small,
and march out for battle!
4 Harness the horses,
mount the steeds!
Take your positions
with helmets on!
Polish your spears,
put on your armor!
5 What do I see?
They are terrified,
they are retreating,
their warriors are defeated.
They flee in haste
without looking back,
and there is terror on every side,ā€
declares the Lord.
6 ā€œThe swift cannot flee
nor the strong escape.
In the north by the River Euphrates
they stumble and fall.

Yup. Nothing to do with him.

The irony is protestants take Scriptures out of context to attempt to prove their points as well. Perhaps this is why you feel interested in Islam?

I’ve always been interested in different religions from a young age. I know protestants take scripture out of context to prove there point. My grandfather was a Baptist preacher. I’m Presbyterian (not Calvinist). I feel like Catholics know how to defend Christianity the best so that’s why I came on here. I want to learn about Catholicism since I have never been exposed to Catholic beliefs.

Well then you came to the right place, sister! šŸ™‚ I’m pretty well-acquainted with Catholic teachings and doctrines, myself so if ever an inquisitive thought arises you are SO very welcome to pvm me.

I credit these very forums with my coming to the Truth and leaving protestantism (methodist) behind me. It is a great place to learn. šŸ‘

Welcome to the forum!
You might consider RCIA classes when they start in September also to learn more about the church.
Anyway back on subject, this article uses the bible out of context for their benefit.

Thank you guys so much. I will ask you some questions when I have some time.šŸ™‚

I just got a chance to open your link;

First of all, the title to the article is: **Biblical Perspective on Imam Hussain **

There is no Biblical perspective on Hussain.

Another think that caught my eye - see black bold:
…God has told us from the time of Prophet Ibrahim, then, that all the prophets including "that prophet" Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny), mentioned in other verses of the Bible, and the ā€œtwelve princesā€ from Ishmael would come.
Nowhere is Mohammad mentioned in the Bible. Nowhere.

Here is another twisted statement
…Further the Christians say that Isaac was the one to be sacrificed and thus the replacement comes from his line, in Jesus. But the earlier scriptures **and **the Qur’an tell us it was Prophet Ismail who was to be sacrificed, and Imam Husain (peace be upon him) is from his line.
What earlier scriptures are they talking about. The OT does not say otherwise. The OT states Isaac. Not Ishmael.

The OT & NT is corrupted according to Islam, but they’ll use it & twist it around to suit and justify Islam.

We both know how they love to use the bible for their own benefit, but it never works šŸ˜‰

I don’t know what earlier scriptures they are talking about. I don’t understand their logic. They say it is corrupt but use it to justify their beliefs.

Sarah,

Welcome to CAF!

Can you please explain the black bold above from your statement.

Thanks!
I just thought it was interesting how they made a connection not necessarily that it is true. I haven’t thought much about Ishmael and the connection to Islam. I am still not sure if Muhammad is actually a descendant of Ishmael or it is just a claim they make.

Yes I’ve heard of the prophecy

*Twelve Princes shall he beget and I will make him a great nation.ā€ *

of the twelve princes and how they relate to the Twelve Imams.

Prophet Muhammad traced His ancestry to Ishmael and Fatima His daughter married Imam Ali from which the line of the Imams sprang.
