For those with an interest in Polyphany and chant, here is a link for the 14th Annual Willam Byrd Festival in Portland, Oregon. It begins this Friday. And there is something for almost everyone.
THE FOURTEENTH ANNUAL WILLIAM BYRD FESTIVAL will take place largely at St. Stephen’s Church between the 12th and the 28th of August. For detailed information about this year’s events, the visiting musicians and scholars, our locations, and to purchase advance tickets for the opening concert on August 12 or the final concert on August 28, please visit the festival website at www.byrdfestival.org. For a printable schedule of all concerts, lectures, and services, please click here.

Sounds awesome. Too bad it’s so far.

One of my favorite that I’ve sung is the Agnus Dei.

It’s funny that as a Protestant, I sang all these “mass” songs without understanding the structure of the mass. I’m sure it will be a whole different experience when I sing them again.

Love Byrd and his contemporaries; some of their compositions populate my .mp3 collection.
