I am getting my neighbor to make me a rosary. I cannot make up my mind on the tradditional 15 decade or the newer twenty decade rosary. Any suggestions?
I have rosaries in both 5, 7, and 20 decades. (The 7 is the Franciscan Crown.) I say go for the 20 for those days when you want to do the whole rosary, and have a couple of 5 decade rosaries on hand for the other days.I am getting my neighbor to make me a rosary. I collect 5-decade rosarys. Have to many actually. Time to give some away. I wanted something new.A five decade Rosary is sufficient.
Well I would only pray it at home and on first Saturdays. I would not carry it around like my normal Job’s Tears five decade rosary. It’s really up to you - do you tend to ALWAYS pray the Luminous Mysteries when you pray the whole Rosary or do you often leave them out? If you leave them out as often as not, the 20-decade might not be the best one for you.
Personally I’d find a 15 or 20 decade Rosary pretty cumbersome unless it was done with really small beads and fine cord/chain.
Even so you’ve got to hold the darn thing!Well I would only pray it at home and on first Saturdays. I would not carry it around like my normal Job’s Tears five decade rosary.
good point. I will prabably try to get it made with a normal chain but Job’s Tears. Have you ever seen or held a Job’s Tears rosary. It is very light.Even so you’ve got to hold the darn thing!
the traditional rosary carried by most Catholics has 5 decades, which are repeated if one decides to pray more than one set of mysteries. the large rosaries worn by religious are longer, but in general, there is no need for a new rosary or longer rosary to pray more mysteries. just go around the block as often as you wish.I am getting my neighbor to make me a rosary. LOL!I also make 20 decade Rosary’s. They are extremely long, but they do make a beautiful “Wall Rosary”.
You can use them for prayer, but you have to be careful… if you walk while praying, as I do. Don’t trip!![]()
That’s why, if I have the time for the full 20, I will be in a sitting/meditation posture. This only happens on weekends when I am not working, or on retreat.I also make 20 decade Rosary’s. They are extremely long, but they do make a beautiful “Wall Rosary”.

A 15 decade is what you will see most religious wearing with thier habits.I never knew there was a 15 or 20 (or even 7) decade rosary (must be one large rosary) - just googled one -
