First of all, hello. I am new to this site, and the religion. I live in Pennsylvania, I am a male, and in the 9th grade. Trying to get in a Catholic school at the moment.

Ever since I was 6 we were going to churches from Jehovah’s witnesses, to the “Church of God”. I was never satisfied with it though. I always felt an empty feeling. Like… Something wasn’t right. I recently discovered the catholic faith, I’ve known about it for about a year.

As each day goes by... I am finding my self more, and more interested as it goes. Some days I feel as if everything not doing with Christ is "boring". Is this normal for me? I know I'm real young, but I absolutely love Mass. If I could I would go to daily Mass; along with Saturday, and Sunday masses.

In all what I am asking, is if you have any links or sites, where I can learn more about the Catholic faith. I know theres a lot of stuff on here, but if you have anything that is a little bit for straight forward? Like helping a newbie with more basic questions. Thank you for your time!

Karma- I’m sorry I can’t help you with the links you need, I enjoy this site but it might be a overwhelming for a young man in your situation.

I suggest checking with your local parish, many have a gift shop or small library with DVDs that will help you.

Are you currently in formal instruction? Just exlploring?

I’m able to go to mass on Sunday, and I am going to classes every Sunday night.

Hello!! Welcome to CA, and welcome on your journey to Christ’s One True Faith!

Check out the link in my signature for tons of stuff - podcasts, radio, television. You can also search for clips on YouTube, www.gloria.tv, and www.lovetobecatholic.com - just search for “michael voris” or “one true faith”.

For a quick start - check out the podcasts HERE

There is a ton of information out there! Just be careful that you get only to true and faithful sites - there are some out there with misleading URLs that look like they might be Catholic, but are giving out bad information. I would suggest sticking with recommendations you get from here at the first.

God Bless you in your discernment!! I think it’s wonderful that you are 15 and in love with the Mass! 👍

Thanks for the info liz!
Also, check to see if you have EWTN on your cable/satalite - granted lots of the shows are slow, but I know occassionally there are some good youth programs…also google Relevant Radio and see if there are programs there for you -

Connect with the local youth minister and start doing some of the fun things with the youth - don’t dive soley into the accademic and worship - God is about Joy too, celebrate by having fun with the youth group at the Church you are going to:)

God Bless You and Welcome Home!

The first thing you should really check into is the RCIA in your local parish. RCIA stands for the RIte of Christian Inistiation of Adults, and they are the ones who can help you with all your questions and get you startd on receiving Baptism (if you are not already baptized) and the sacraments of Confirmation. Eucharist and Reconciliation (Confession). If you are not Catholic, while you can come to Mass as often as you can, you may not receive Holy Communion until you are initiatied into the CHurch. Call up your local parish and make an appointment to sit and talk about it.

I was 15 when I entered the Church back in 1963. The folks have made some very good suggestions for information for you to look over. I would also like someone said, visit with the priest and he might have some information you might like to look over.

Best wishes to you on your journey…

Thank you everyone for help. I have watched two episodes of the “The One True Faith”, and have read some of the articles

This sounds like a good site: it has a short catechism (outlining Catholic beliefs), more in-depth list of beliefs about Our Lord, Our Lady, and the Holy Trinity. It also includes many spiritual works written mostly by people canonised/beatified, a great source for spiritual reading. catholictreasury.info/

Two general words of caution:
  1. using the Internet to research matters pertaining to the Catholic faith ought to be done with due care, insofar as one should ensure they view material with a proper Catholic mindset. To this end, if you happen to come accross something that may seem questionable, post the web address in these forums to gather perspective of people here.
  2. Be mindful that there are many in the Church today who have contempt (or at least, disdain, or ignorance) towards the Church’s traditions, teachings, and outlook. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a good resource to get accurate Church teaching. Other faithful resources include the Baltimore Catechism).
God bless.

Welcome to the boards!

I would highly recommend purchasing (or checking out from your library) the book “Catholicism for Dummies”. Despite the title, this is a very sophisticated book that tackles almost every basic issue about the Catholic Church you could want to know, and does so in a very easy-to-read manner. It is written by a pair of priests from EWTN. On a side-note, do NOT get the similarly named “Idiot’s Guide to Catholicism.” It has several factual errors, and is written from a pretty liberal perspective. It is not recommended.

Very wonderful to hear! Good to know I’m not the only young guy (16) to ever consider entering the Church.

A few good podcasts I listen to would Daily Breakfast with Fr. Roderick, he does a good show, tackling Catholic sort of things as well as doing more pop culture sort of stuff.

For just plain answers to questions, there is also Catholic Answers, which is a very good Q and A podcast which will answer questions that listeners call in, ranging from dilemmas to basic teaching. It usually will give other great resources to learn from.

You can find both of those just by searching on the iTunes store, or online, though I couldn’t give you a link.

These forums are great, as well as the Catholic Answers site and newadvent.org, which is a great blog feed and has the Catholic Encyclopedia, the Summa Theologica, early Church fathers stuff, and the Bible all right there in a searchable format.

Hey there, mate.

I’m a 17 year old male Catholic.

I have ONE thing to add to what people have said:

Go to Adoration.

As Catholics, we find Jesus Christ, in the bible and in our daily lives but more than anything in the Eucharist.

Jesus Christ is present as the Eucharist.

**Go and meet Him. He is calling for you! **

As Catholics, we don’t just have to talk about God or even just talk to Him. We can go and see Him.

In Christ,

JD

Hi Karmastrike,

Some good ideas already posted. One site I would recommend where you can download a lot of good talks is Keep the Faith:

keepthefaith.org/

They are solid and enjoyable. Plus you can download talks that pertain to almost any area of interest.

God bless!

Hi, don’t worry about your desire to attend Mass daily, and finding the mundane boring. If you looking at life with Jesus in mind, you are pleasing Him. 👍

Your local library may have many books on Catholicism.

Also, this site… amm.org/chss/chss.htm
offers a free home study courses. I’d suggest starting out with the one titled “We Believe…” A Survey of the Catholic Faith. It’s a solid introduction to the Faith.

This site is an excellent online introduction to Catholicism …

The Rosary is a wonderful devotion, and this site offers a free download to help learn the rosary. … virtualrosary.org/dload.php

Catholicism is a beautiful faith 🙂

Welcome and God Bless you !
