1662 Book of Common Prayer

Hi. I was wondering, what do you think about the 1662 Book of Common Prayer? I recently bought a copy from Amazon and I like it a lot. Please also state your reason for your respond. Thank you.

1662, the basis for the 1928, isn’t bad, if you know the history of the Black Rubric. Or, simply ignore it.

I like 1549, 1892, 1928, and I’ll take 1662. I have specified in my funeral directions that the second funeral sentence (there are three) in 1928 be substituted for the same in the 1549:

I know that my redeemer liveth, and that I shall rise
out of the earth in the last day, and shal be covered
again with my skin and shall see God in my flesh: yea and
I myself shall behold him, not with other but with these
same eyes.

In place of these “modern” words from 1662 and succeeding prayerbooks:

I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand
at the latter day upon the earth: and though this body be
destroyed, yet shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself,
and mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger.
 
Yes I am very familiar with the Black Rubric. Frankly, I just ignore it. I hope nobody minds me editing the Articles of Religion and the Prayer Book. I am making it more Catholic, if I can. Hopefully, it can get a Imprimatur. (LOL)

Pick up a 1928 Book. You won’t have to ignore ol’ Blacky.

Sure, feel free to ignore the Articles, too, unless you are officially an Ordinand of the Church of England. Or cut them from the Book and use them to kindle the new Fire, in Holy Week.

I could do that but I rather not damage a 58 year old 1928 BCP or a brand new 1662 BCP. I am going to edit it. Maybe soon I can post it online. Do you think my editing will get an Imprimatur?😃 😛

An Anglican Imprimatur?

If so, it will be a rare book, indeed.

What portions of the book do you propose to edit?

Well anyways, I plan to edit the Articles of Religion and the Catechism to be in line of Catholic Doctrine. Or maybe just replace the Catechism with the Baltimore Catechism 3 or 4. I will keep the Holy Communion but add the Novus Ordo and the Latin Mass. That is so far what I plan to do with the BCP.

How very interesting! It seems to me the second one could easily be interpreted in a non-christian way, whereas the first is really quite clear. Although I suppose someone might make the same mistake St Paul refers to - but in my experience people are more likely to forget bout the resurrection of the body. That may be a particularly modern mistake though.
