I’m reading a book on Irish history and I read something that triggered a question.

The Franciscans were influenced by the Spanish Church. They ministered to the native Irish.

The Jesuits were influenced by the French Church (and another nation I can’t remember).

My interest are peaked and I want to research the historic contrast between the spirituality of the two nations and orders.

Does anyone have any resources they know that can help me? Preferable free resources?

I couldn’t at first understand why you wanted to know more about a subject in which your interest had “peaked” - after re-reading I realise you meant “piqued”…:confused:

Color me embarrassed! 😊:o:blush::o:blush:
In truth I had no idea that it was piqued, in fact I’ve never seen that word. I’ve worked on homophones in my adult life so here is another example that I need to master. It’s better to make the mistake here then in my professional life. :rotfl::rotfl:

It’s always a tricky one…do you tell someone (and pique IS an odd word) or do you let them misuse it when it matters? I am a journalist/author so these thing always jump out at me and I read your sentence three times trying to make sense of it…

Meanwhile I have just heard someone on TV describing himself as a restauranter oblivious to the fact there is no “n” in the word: people who run restaurants are named from the French verb restaurer, to restore, but evidently no-one has told him this…which would be a kindness in the circumstances…👍

I do not point out misuses often. As a child I had a condition that I wasn’t diagnosed with. It limited my academic ability and spelling was my worst subject. I was often laughed at or corrected for misspelled words. I’t doesn’t hurt my feelings anymore, but I still have a hard time correcting someones else. I developed a love for language in my late 20s which motivated me to improve my spelling. I now consider myself above average but I still have a long way to go! I hope to improve my skills to your level. In a twist of irony, I’m not going to proofread this response because it’s late here and I’m tired. 🤷🤷

Some Islamic theologians suggest that the 17 th century was the last century when Christian civilization can be called Christian, claiming that the last three centuries, the West has been abolishing its christian heritage.
