I’ve searched the forum and I can’t find any complete answer to this, just that changes were made to the rubrics. I have a Missale Romanum from 1922, and I’m wondering, what changes were made to Holy Week in the period between that year and 1962? I mean, exactly what changes?

The changes occured in the year 1951 (Easter Vigil, optional) and 1956 whereby the whole of the revised Holy Week was made obligatory. The changes are quite extensive and you’ll get the best iea if you read the text here . It was slightly further modified in 1957 (e.g. to allow solemn functions without a subdeacon)

Darn, the link isn’t working. I’ve heard that the pre-1956 Holy Week liturgy was longer. Is it safe to say that post-1956 is shorter, however, essentially the same? As in, things were taken out?

By the way, I have to say, after having read some of your other posts - you are quite the liturgical expert!

Sorry, try this link. (set your character encoding, under the View in your browser, to Unicode, for the best display)

:o It’s not original to myself…most of the time, I’ve read it in other people’s books.

Thank you very much for your awesome help - I have no idea why this is so hard to find!
