The wording of one particular prayer means absolutely nothing in the overall picture. If what was done to the Holy Week rites were simply that, I doubt there would ever have been any discussion of the issue.
That the Holy Week rites were drastically altered with the 1955 revisions is fact. Now, whether the “revised” Holy Week rites were better or worse is, I suppose, a matter of opinion. In any case, an excellent series of articles on the subject appeared in the
New Liturgical Movement a couple of years ago.
It is evident that Gregory DiPippo the correspondent of the New Liturgical Movement from Roma does not like the changes. He did not convinced me. Based on his picture I suppose he did not live in the time of the changes. I was there and testify that before (in Hungary) 1957 the churches were almost empty during the celebration, and after that they were full.
Here is something to consider about the warm body:
There was a man who attended church each Sunday. One day he
stopped coming to church. After a while the pastor became concerned and
decided to pay the man a visit. It happened to be a very cold day when the
pastor came knocking at the man’s home. The man welcomed the pastor into
his home and together they sat down near the fireplace to chat.
The pastor inquired as to the man’s state of health. He told the pastor
that his health was good. His business was also doing well. In fact, he
had no complaints. “So why did you stop attending church?” asked the
pastor.
“I have decided that I could concentrate better on my prayers when I
pray at home. Here, I’m not distracted by anyone, so now I pray at home
each day.”
The pastor picked up the fire tongs. He went over to the fireplace and
removed one glowing coal from the rest. Then he placed it on the side of
the fireplace, away from the other coals.
“Now watch this single coal and watch the rest!” declared the pastor.
While the other coals continued burning and warming the room, this
single coal slowly lost its glow until it became completely extinguished and
cold.
Also consider how the termites cross a river forming a disk like structure. Those at the sides die, the seed survives and ready to start new life.
We need a critical body for the survival. The Ordo Hebdomodae Sanctae helped to save this critical body.
