1962 Roman Catholic Daily Missal - Do you have one?

I think I could probably get one for my tablet. If I can, I’ll probably download it and take a look.

Before that I used (and still have) the Saint Joseph Sunday Missal with the imprimatur of Cardinal Spellman. Also a great Missal but the only latin contained in it is the Ordinary of the Mass. Other than that the propers are presented in English. This Missal also has devotional prayers and lists indulgences proper to each prayer.

Perhaps an early forecaster that they would do away with the Latin entirely?

That’s because if you examine it, the Order of Mass is nearly exactly the same as it was before.

I have my St Joseph Sunday Missal I received as a gift from my Grandmother Crocco at my first Holy Communion - in 1964. I smiled at all the fuss about the ‘new’ English translation too - because it is exactly what I learned as the ENGLISH translation when I was a child. My Missal allows me to follow in both Latin and English. I love it. What a treasure is our Church.

Haha, well, the Latin of the “old mass” and the Latin of the “new mass” is exactly the same in many places, like the Kyrie, the Gloria, the Credo, the Sanctus, Pater Noster, Agnus Dei, etc. They differ in all the small details. I’ve heard many older people be surprised at how similar the new translation is to the English translations of the old hand missals, sometimes they like it, and sometimes they hate it.

I have the one from baronious press, I like being able to follow along with the Mass while it is happening, I love the TLM.

I have a 1961 St. Joseph Daily Missal. I use it every time I go to EF mass.

I also have a Daily Roman Missal from Midwest Theological Forum. I use it for morning prayer, daily mass, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and preparation for confession.

I’d like to get the Baronius Press EF missal, but the price is keeping me away for the time being. Once I get on full time at my job in July I have a lot of books to purchase.

I’ve got a 1962 Roman Rite Missal by Baronius Press, given to me by my wife last year that we use every time we go to the TLM at St. Joseph’s. It’s great!

I’m so glad to see so many people getting some great use out of their much-loved, well-worn Missals. I was thinking of what a blessing it is, to be able to have one, and follow along with the Mass… I get to read the ‘traditional’ Mass, all the prayers etc, and it’s also just a great spiritual help even if I don’t get to an EF Mass.

I should explain that the only EF Mass in my city is at 8 am on Sundays, all the way across town, and city bus service doesn’t run that early on a Sunday. I can’t drive currently, so unless I found someone to pick me up and take me, I have no way of getting there. That’s okay though… for now, the Missal’s really a blessing, and there are a few OF/NO Masses within walking distance, for which I’m definitely grateful.

This weekend I’ll be taking some time to really get into the Missal – it’s the start of a new year, so perfect time to get serious about diving in.

I, too, have the Baronius Press missal. It is a real jewel. I use it at night time to teach my youngest child some of our most important traditional Catholic prayers.

Also, I noticed a few comments above about the worn condition of many of the older missals. The Holy Bible my mother and father received on their wedding day nearly 60 years ago was literally falling out of the binding. I was able to find a book restorer in town and in just a couple of weeks I had it back, good as new. They even were able to replace the worn book mark ribbons which had deteriorated. This is so gratifying to have my mom and dad’s original Bible and in such sturdy condition again. Please consider that for your missals.

My kids will find several 60 year old Bibles that have seen very little use, but those are all NABs and NRSVs that I have received as gifts.

I have been thinking of doing this for my 60 year old family Bible as well but have not gotten around to it.
