Why does the writer suggest not to pray for those commiting deadly sin? I would think that’s when we would need it most. Though I realize that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is unforgiveable, so why waste your time. Are there others that are unforgivable? What exactly is the blasphemy of the HS?

I would have to investigate and study more to be able to give a definite answer for the first part of your question, but I have an idea. It may be referring to the fact that praying for someone in mortal sin is not efficient for their forgiveness, in order for forgiveness the person must have a sincere and contrite heart and themselves repent to God. But I am not totally sure if this is correct interpretation. But I can tell you what is meant by blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. This means a hardened heart at death, a complete refusal and rejectance against God prior to death. This sin is unforgiveable and without repentance would send a person to Hell. Hope that helps!

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit also means to attribute to the devil something that is done by God (Father, Son or Holy Spirit). The Pharisees said that Jesus did a miracle by the power of the devil, not by the power of God (Who Jesus is).

I agree with FTS about why it says we are not told to pray for these people in mortal sin. Note that it doesn’t prohibit us to, it just doesn’t require us to.

hello.first let me say I agree with lak611.According to the notes in my Bible(NAB),this littterally means"sin unto death"probubly referring to apostasy or activities brought on under the antichrist.Look at Rev.13:5-8.Hope this helps.

I think it just means that we are not required to pray for those people. I think those people need to come to repentance on their own.

But I believe I can still pray so that God can soften his/her heart so that he/she can see that he/she needs to repent.

As far as the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, I found this on CA website. Scroll down to that section, it’s the last one.
