You do also understand what any other church has ever done is not applicable to my church since we are not historically connected to any denomination.

I have not studied it enough to say. It is a new topic for me.
My church is 4 years old. It follows the Bible. It was started by an atheist like I was. He came to Christ because of a girl who shared the gospel with him. He read the Bible and started our church. He did attend college to get further training in the Bible but no school around here agrees with what the Bible teaches so I cannot say he was influenced that much. I do not agree with him on everything. He obviously needs to read his Bible a little more closely on some issues.
Evidently, just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. I say this, because contraception is not the only thing that has changed, it was just an illustration.

I do not devulge personal information on the internet. We are not connected to any denominations. We do not give money to other denominations. We are not under any organization outside of the church we belong to. It was started by my pastor in his house. It has grown considerably but is still small. We follow the Bible. Your statement is not correct.

This church you go to sounds rather similar to what we call “traditions of men”.

You also follow a teacher (or preacher) that you don’t feel is inspired by the Holy Spirit in what he teaches, or else you would come to the same conclusion or abide by what he says. This is interesting.

I feel more comfortable following the Church that Christ started, mind you.
 
RD, how do you interpret Matthew 18:17?

Does Jesus simply mean, take it to the Church that just happens to agree with you?

So, what you are saying is that your interpretation of the Bible is correct and his isn’t, therefore he isn’t rightly dividing the word of God (2 Tim 2:15).

And since the Holy Spirit is your personal guide to Biblical truth and your pastors is also, then you are saying the Holy Spirit isn’t guiding him correctly, since he “needs to read his Bible a little more closely.”

Well I can tell you I went to a Catholic mass and the priest was in favor of female priests and was a universalist. That was in the last two years. So one can see the problem IF that verse applied to doctrinal disputes.
I do not believe 18:17 applies to doctrinal disputes, those are legal disputes. I even had a Catholic agree with me about that last month on this forum.

Not as of last week, he is getting better though!

The Bible is my guide. I pray for the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
Not all Catholics agree on everything because the Catholic church has not infallibly defined everything. Likewise with Bible believers, they have different views on matters. I suppose you think I should start another church?

No, the priest can be one of the evil weeds among the tares. God will separate them at the proper time. The Church is who Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide. That’s the Church that Matthew 18 is talking of.

So the Church is to take over secular duties? Where does this come from. You and your Catholic friend are sadly mistaken, because according to you, if you can’t resolve a legal dispute with someone, you must treat them as a non-believer? Isn’t that harsh?

There is not getting around different interpretations. I posted a link of over a hundred groups who use traditions and scripture and say they are the true Catholic church.
Who said totally different? I certainly did not
Luckily, the Bible tells us to look to something else for the Pillar and Bulwark of Truth.

The church, all who are saved, is the church. They need to spread the truth of the gospel. That is why soul winning is so important. If I do not lead a person to Christ every week, I will not stop until I do.

But that church is not the church and you know it.

But how can two people of the Church teach two different things.

Is Baptism regenerative? Is “Faith alone” what saves us?

I’m not looking for your answers on these two questions, I’m just highlighting how “The truth” can be two diametrically opposed truths, if the people are the only church.

"If your brother sins (against you), go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.

Now, you show me where it is a legal dispute.

Jesus teaches us to obey our civil authorities. If that’s the case, then we should take legal disputes to the legal authorities.
