1st Condition for a mortal sin? have i done it?

Hey everyone!!

there are three conditions for a mortal sin.

The first is that you have to know its a sin

now my concern is, i dont like lying. I strive to be honest, but in a case where i am lying or not, do i have to realise that i am lying in order to lie? for example if you are selling/trading something with someone, and i am scrupulous, and srcupulous about being honest, i tell them everything, but i forget to tell them that i fixed some stuff that may or may not ever need to be fixed again. The item in question was a snowblower, and i forgot to mention that i had to redrill and tap a hole for a screw and washer to hold it in place. I am concerned that the bolt might come loose, (although i doubt it ever will as we used it, plus i ran it at school), and i forgot to mention this to the lady who traded that and a paint sprayer for a ring for my mom. I did mention that the throttle linkage might need to be shortened as i lost the orginal and i had to make a new one (this was at school auto class, i love mechanics, but im not a pro, cut me some slack, it was grade 11 last year ). I am cocnerned that i lied and am in mortal sin, i did mention it to my dad that i should go back to her house and let her know, (although that bolt might never be a concern). Have i sinned? and as for the original question, Do you have to know that you are going to commit/commiting a sin for it to be a sin? what if you are doubting and asking yourself “is this lying” or “is this …” does that still count??

If you omit information because you forgot the information, that is not a lie. That is categorized as a mistake, not a lie. Thus, you did not do a mortal sin by forgetting a piece of information about the snowblower. However, if you determine that the piece of information that you have recalled will be crucial to the new owner, then I’d pass the information along to them now that you have recalled it. The bolt thing is a common sort of fix and is not vital information in my opinion. The snow blower is used, and the new owner knows this.

You cannot tell a lie by accident. Lying is deliberate.
Now you may say something that is not true by mistake but that would not be a lie.
