1st January - Holy Day of Obligation?

Does anyone know if the 1st January (Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God) is a Holy Day of Obligation in Ireland?

That’s not what it says.

The Holy Days of Obligation for Ireland are those with a dot. That includes Epiphany but not the feast of Mary, Mother of God. Their only Marian Holy Day of Obligation is Assumption.

In my Handbook of Prayers January 1 is not a Holy Day of Obligation in Ireland, nor in Scotland, England, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, Brunei, Malaysia or Singapore.

It is a Holy Day of Obligation in Canada, USA, and Philippines.
 
So it’s not a Holy Day of Obligation in Ireland.

Yes, indeed. Go anyway.

It’s still the Octave of Christmas, aka the Circumcision (at least it is in the EF). I don’t know about the Byzantine or the Alexandrine Churches, but the Syriac Churches still observe it as the Circumcision.

No matter what any episcopal conference decides, it still seems to me it should be observed. Particularly for those who follow the EF (and the various Oriental and Eastern disciplines). Even for those who follow the OF: is it too much of an imposition to assist at Holy Mass because the night before is often one of revelry?
