How are they “powerful”?

Sounds like a superstition.

Prayer works.
Both of those Saints have gained literally thousands of miracles through their intercession.
People use different prayer styles. It’s fine
It’s God who is powerful.
We are to ASK for what we need through prayer.

I’m sorry you feel that way. Having our saints to pray for us is such a blessing as Catholics! It isn’t a superstition, it’s REAL!

I would like post two very powerful novenas for everyone to see. Both have worked very well for me.

St. Joseph Novena(Most Powerful Novena)/Say 9 mornings:

St Jude Novena/Say 9 days:

Thank You!!! Sometimes we need posts like these to uplift us from the heavy burdens of life. It is a reminder that despite our trials , we should continue to be faithful and ask God or the intercession of Mother Mary and all the saints for their help… There are times when we feel really discourage, wondering if God hears our prayers,…so THANK YOU. Thank you for your posts…Thank you for reminding us that Prayers work!! God bless you…

They are indeed two very powerful Novenas. The power of prayer does work. As St. Paul has said; we are to pray unceasingly.

Sounds like you misunderstand the “power” of Prayer. I had a very quick answer to my Novena to St. Jude in regards to my son. First time I had ever made a novena to St. Jude. And also an answer to a prayer to St. Joseph. Both amazing. Don’t ever underestimate the prayers of the Saints. They are with God. I could tell you more about other answers but this is not the place for all that. God Bless. Memaw

Yes, it is a blessing to have saints pray for us.

But how is it powerful?

Can they overrule God’s will? No.

If it is God’s will that your request is denied, then no amount of saints can pray for us to overrule that will.

Period.

End of sentence.

I don’t misunderstand the power of prayer. I understand its power. I don’t believe in stuperstition (misspelling intentional)

If the prayer is for something that is in God’s will, it has power. God’s will is the power of prayer.

If the prayer is for something that is NOT in God’s will, game over, it is worthless and has no power. No prayer can overrule God’s will.

Thy will be done, O Lord, not my will. That’s the catch. The fine print. The exception to all the “powerful” prayers. This is the “gotcha!” of prayer. Stuperstition ignores this key point.

You’re reading way too much in to this.
It’s not as dire as you think.
None of the Saints, and NO CATHOLIC believes that anyone is more powerful than God.
You do the OP a big injustice by advancing that he has no clue about God.
People who pray unceasingly have an excellent relationship with God.

End of story.

You’re reading way too much in to this.
I’m not.

The OP was making a statement which was too broad, and forgot to mention something very important.

The OP forgot the catch, the fine print, the “gotcha” - which is that all requests must be in the will of God.

Period.

End of sentence.

If prayers are asking for things that are within the will of God, they’re powerful.
If prayers are asking for things that are OUTSIDE of the will of God, they’re worthless and will not work at all. No power at all. Zero. ZIppo. Zilch. Nada. Nothing.

Under no condition can prayers that ask for something outside of the will of God will be granted. This is a harsh reality, that the OP forgot to mention.
It’s not as dire as you think.
Not sure what you mean by “dire”

Precisely what I’m saying.

I didn’t say the OP had “no clue” I said the OP “forgot the fine print”

Big difference.

Don’t put words in my mouth. That’s not charitable.

How charitable is it to derail a lovely thread?
Honestly, I’m not going to argue with you. Prayers are powerful.
Ask your priest.
I’m out.

Most powerful? Is there a hierarchy of the power of novenas that I am unaware of?

We pray novenas often. But I’ve tended to notice that others who suggest a novena should be prayed by " everyone". Or is somehow more powerful than another, seem to be crossing over to the superstitious.

But can a prayer, ANY PRAYER, overrule God’s will?

Nope!

And how is this derailed? All I did was remind you that there is a catch. All requests must be in God’s will.

Period.

Didn’t God ask us to pray unceasingly ? Why would HE do that if our prayers didn’t matter. Are you implying that everyone who prays is stupid? You need to talk to a priest to help you understand. I doubt anything anyone can say here would help. God Bless, Memaw

Yes, God taught us to pray unceasingly.

That does not mean praying unceasingly will overrule his will.

I didn’t say prayers did not matter. I said prayers that go against God’s will will get a NO, which means they don’t matter.

I want to be a billionaire. God said no. That is not in his will. Praying unceasingly won’t change his mind.

Period.

Seriously, do you REALLY believe that you can get God to change his mind and change his will?

If yes, this is not Church teaching, nor is this in the Bible or Tradition.

Thank you for sharing. I haven’t prayed to St. Joseph or St. Jude before. Sounds like they’re great intercessors.
