At my local parish we have 2 priests, the pastor and a parochial vicar. (I’m also not real clear on what a parochial vicar is?) Often they will begin to celebrate Mass together, with one taking the lead and the other more in the background. Frequently the “lead” priest, after the homily will simply leave, (the back way) and never come back! The other priest celebrates the liturgy of the Eucharist and it’s never addressed as to where Fr. so and so went. It is quite distracting, and I’ve never seen it anywhere else. Granted, most other churches I’ve been to have only one priest. Is this common?
