How many folks here (particularly ECs and Orthodox) are devotees and admirers of St. Mary Of Egypt? (I ASSUME most here know her Epic and Edifying Tale).

Also, how many think (like some scholars do) that she was the “inspiration” for Gregory The Great’s tagging of St. Mary Magdalene as a “Reformed Prostitute?”😊

Along with St. Anthony The Great and St. Sarah Of The Desert, she is my favorite Saint.

(I also have great affection for St. Francis Of Sales and St. Bridget Of Sweden on the RC side).

Her story has haunted me ever since I first heard of it. Would make a superb movie.

Turns out, the Priest at our Melkite Church is a devotee of Mary, as I am. April 1 is a Great Day for me, regardless of any “Foolish” associations.😃

I pray that I can only achieve HALF of she achieved. One of the True Lights Of The EC and Orthodox Churches.

Wish the RC would emphasize her more. 👍

I just read about her. Wow! Her story is amazing! Saint Mary of Egypt, pray for us. Amen.

I was just at St. Nicholas parish today for their annual Bazaar. They have a Holy Icon of St. Mary Of Egypt, top far left (not the seraphim :)) on their Iconostasis. A photo from Pentecost, and another shot from the Blessing of the Iconostasis.
I love when the The Life of St. Mary of Egypt is read during Great Lent.

My parish is named after her. She is our fortress and protection.

Dear Friends,

The fifth Sunday of Lent in the East is dedicated to St Mary of Egypt and she is invoked during the long service of the penitential Canon of St Andrew of Crete.

The second time the Canon is recited in full, the life of St Mary of Egypt is read in church as well.

Also, in the Slavonic Churches it is actually forbidden for women to receive the name “Mary” in honour of the Blessed Virgin May - it should ideally only be another St Mary and Mary of Egypt is the most popular one!
