How many folks here (particularly ECs and Orthodox) are devotees and admirers of St. Mary Of Egypt? (I ASSUME most here know her Epic and Edifying Tale).
Also, how many think (like some scholars do) that she was the “inspiration” for Gregory The Great’s tagging of St. Mary Magdalene as a “Reformed Prostitute?”
Along with St. Anthony The Great and St. Sarah Of The Desert, she is my favorite Saint.
(I also have great affection for St. Francis Of Sales and St. Bridget Of Sweden on the RC side).
Her story has haunted me ever since I first heard of it. Would make a superb movie.
Turns out, the Priest at our Melkite Church is a devotee of Mary, as I am. April 1 is a Great Day for me, regardless of any “Foolish” associations.
I pray that I can only achieve HALF of she achieved. One of the True Lights Of The EC and Orthodox Churches.
Wish the RC would emphasize her more.
