  1. Is it a sin to be overweight, since that means I’m overeating, or beating a glutton? Should I be taking care of my body with diet and exercise? (I’m not noticeably fat, but I am a little overweight, we’re talking like an extra 10 lbs)
  2. When I don’t masturbate for like a week, I end up having sexual dreams and I drive myself mad until I have to masturbate. I like to go to church daily, if I screw up and masturbate, do I have to confess it to a priest before taking communion? I’d have to go all week attending without receiving communion until the weekend confession?

It’s my understanding that masturbation is a serious sin, so, yes, you would have to go to Confession first. Possibly you could ask the priest before Mass to hear your confession.

ISTM that point 2 has been asked and answered.

As to point 1: No, being overweight is not a sin, per se, even if you were noticeably heavy. We are not in command of our bodies’ metabolisms, and they do change, normally by slowing down. That means weight gain.

We should care for our bodies, though, as our souls need them to hold and express life. Ten pounds is no big deal, but you’d want to keep it there, as much more than that can hinder you in living the life GOD wants for you; and we live life with our bodies!

Your situation does not call for dieting, per se, but take care in using food for comfort rather than sustenance, etc. That is where “gluttony” can begin.

And physical activity is great! “A body in motion stays in motion.”

God Bless and ICXC NIKA!
