2 weeks of being pure! But im really confused!

Hi everybody!

as some of you may know i have been struggling with purity. Three weeks ago today i went to confession, but after about a week or so after that, i feel into sin. i went to confession today for it and feel so much better! i have been pure for 2 weeks! i know it isnt a long time but it is a great feeling! i feel so free!😃

however, when i went to confession today, the priest told me that i shouldnt worry about it and that i shouldnt even bother with confessing impure touches. i told him i thought it was a mortal sin and he said that the church used to teach that, but because in todays society many people do it, it isnt considered a sin anymore. i was extremely surprised and frankly, let down. im still going to continue to stay pure though! i couldnt have done it without you guys!!👍👍👍:D:D:D:D
 
My advice would be not to return to this priest for confession ever again.

It is a very sad day when a priest will lead someone into sin. Stay away!

I second this advice and am happy that you are taking the advice of those who know better.

Yes it is. The validity of the confession does not depend on the moral or spiritual state of the priest. It is the Holy Spirit that absolves you of your sins and His power is not diminished even when the priest gives you bad advice.

It’s a sad day when our priests believe that something is ok “because everyone else is doing it.” Comments like that reduce theology and morality to the level of a stoned teenager.

2 weeks!! Try four months for me buddy! And im half catholic half agnostic get ur rightegeousness game up! I have not done so much as kissed a girl in 7 years!! (Not if you count that time i danced with that one girl a couple years back). Good for you man just keep your mind on other things.

The Lord says, “neither do I condemn you…go your way and sin no more.”

Forget this preist. He seems to be in error. Masturbation DOES separate people from the Lord.

Everyone does it, so get over it. That is not to condone it - to the contrary. I’m just saying, don’t think you are the Lone Ranger on this because you are not. It is a bigger struggle for some of us than others.

Pray for God’s grace to realize that he does not condemn you. You are forgiven for your sins. Find a Preist who has real power to forgive sins on earth, as opposed to this alleged quack. There you will find the grace and mercy of our Lord in this matter.

Go back to confession, make a good act of contrition, and realize that Jesus does not condemn you. If you are like me, you will therefore be compelled to sin no more.

well ya, going into the confessional i knew i had committed a sin. i was just really shocked when he told me it wasnt and even tried to challenge him by stating that it was a mortal sin. i mean even the bible says its wrong, so that priest shouldnt have the authority to change that!

You may not think two weeks is mcuh but it’s a huge achievement, congratulations.
 
the priest is wrong…impure touching is equivalent to any other sexual sin in the sense, that once your will chooses sexual pleasure willingly in any form outside marriage you are in the wrong…
 
Stay the course, DarthFurg, and congratulations so far. One step at a time. Be inspired by one of the threads here on CAF that celebrates one year of purity (and a responder who has made it to 8 months). Go for it. You can do it eventually, too. Everyone’s behind you here. Keep your prayer life faithful and intense, and your visits to the confessional (even without that sin) frequent. Confessional graces will help arm you against all sin.

thank you for the kind words of encouragement! But since i have been coming to this site and going to confession more often, i havent even been tempted! thank you for helping me get through this difficult time 🙂

WEll, I think the Church is taking a look at masturbation realizing that most struggle with it a lifetime, I really dont believe its a sin, but If I commit it, I will go to confession, most times the priest thinks nothing of it. I think it`s as natural as taking a breadth of air, the desire is just too strong, & its too much to ignore, especially for men
 
Sin is a little more complex than purity and whether you’ve danced with a girl or not…
