Anybody know of a store where I could purchase a 20 decade rosary without going bankrupt?:twocents:

20 decades? For one that big I’d make it myself - you can buy the fixings quite cheaply and it’s not especially difficult.

Or learn to make one from knotted twine - you can find out how at the Rosary Army’s website.

Or ask one of our lovely Rosary Army members (like Zooey for example) to make one from knotted twine for you - they’d be lighter and easier to carry than a beaded Rosary too, which is a consideration with one that big.

Wouldn’t it be more convenient to just use a five-decade Rosary over and over, rather than having such a long Rosary?

Harry,

Before I started making twine rosaries, I used to get them through John Michael Talbot’s Troubador for the Lord store…he used to sell 20-decade rosaries, but they’re not listed anymore, they seem to have simplified their inventory quite a bit.

Anyway, go on eBay and search for “20 rosary” (I discovered that adding “decade” limits the search too much, since some people list it under “20 decade” and some use “20 mysteries”). Especially scroll down to the “buy it now” auctions. You should be able to get one for around $20.

Blessings…

If I really needed a 20-decade Rosary (and I don’t think I do) this is what I would do:

Go to my local Catholic bookstore (where they also happen to sell and repair Rosaries). Pick out a Rosary I happen to like that I think would work for me. Take four of them (identical) to the gal who runs the place and ask her to rework the four Rosaries into one big 20-decade Rosary. And I’d probably have to pay for an additional three special beads or something to put in at the end of the 5th, 10th and 15th decades. It would probably take the gal maybe 5 or 10 minutes to construct the 20-decade rosary. The cost could easily be anywhere from $20 (using four $5 dollar Rosaries) to $80 (four $20 Rosaries). I generally can find a 5-decade Rosary that I like for maybe $10-15. I like Italian-made or something inexpensive, attractive, rugged and feels good and works well with my large fingers. One of my favorites right now is the “Blue Army Sanctity of Life” Rosary ( see wafusa.org/ item # 100205 which was $10 plus shipping).

Andruschak, I’ve been praying the Rosary daily for nearly a year. At least five decades a day. Often 10, 15 or 20 decades on weekdays. I am very much used to praying with a 5-decade Rosary. Once in a while (really very rarely) I may pray 20 decades all at one time. Even then I simply use the 5-decade Rosary with no difficulty.

If you want a 20-decade Rosary and if it will inspire you to pray more often, then go for it. And get back to us on this thread about how it works out. When I hear about your experience, maybe I will want to have one made.

Big disadvantage of 20-decade Rosary. It would be even more likely to get tangled up than a 5-decade Rosary. When you pray the Rosary and find out that you have come up on a tangled-up-spot on the Rosary, it can mess up your concentration and interrupt the prayer.

Bottom line: if a five-decade Rosary is good enough for the Religious (such as the nuns praying the Rosary on EWTN) it is good enough for me too. And when you buy a Rosary, make sure you get it blessed by a Catholic Priest or Deacon.

You want to always have a Rosary handy. I always keep one in my pants pocket with my keys. And it is a good idea to have some spares in places where you may need one (car, at work, in your study, in your bedroom). Because you never know when your Rosary may be in disrepair, misplaced or accidentally forgotten. A five-decade Rosary is probably a handier size to have in your pocket than a 20-decade Rosary.

jmm:

I agree with you…just keep using the five-decade Rosary over and over as many times as you like!

For the pocket I have two single-decade Rosaries handy - they’re really the best for when you’re out and about.

On Ebay, you can get a 20 decade rosary for quite cheap…even those made of cord with the wooden beads. I would not recommend the chain ones. They’d tangle. I’ve never had a corded rosary tangle on me, even when its in a pocket. It makes far less noise, too, and is easier to walk with. I can’t use a full-cord rosary that doesn’t have beads; they’ll tangle and they’re not hefty enough for me to hold. I have a hard time holding anything small.

I do share your frustration though. Its HARD to find 15 or 20 decade rosaries!

What about contacting a monastery or convent? I bet anything if you contacted them with your request, they’d be able to direct you in the right direction. I’m thinking particularly about those religious orders whose habits include the full Rosary as a kind of belt around the waist; I think Mother Angelica’s orders have those.

If you still need one I had some made for about $40. each. They’re all wood with a nice wood crucifix made by some cloistered nuns here in Michigan.

Not needed anymore, but thank you. A friend on this forum sent me a 20 decade cord rosary, which I use on special occasions, such as retreats:)

I know that I’m a little late, but there’s some on This Site for about $11.
Personally, I’ve never had any experience with this site, but I plan to do so in the future. (I don’t have a credit card).

Cheap, easy, too big, why not use one four times. I can’t believe what I hear. You can get any Rosary for free. Even an original 20 decade Rosary. I don’t believe that the Fatima.Org site has 20 decade Rosaries but they might. I collect Rosaries from all over the world and the Fatima site has the most beautiful low cost Rosaries you can get. Not to mention your supporting a site that promotes the praying of the Rosary. It also educates you on the importance of the Rosary and what it means to say it everyday with your family. And as far as the Rosary being too big. I wish I could have a Rosary that would go around my body and cover me from head to toe. It could never be too big. Please say the Rosary daily and with your family. If you have to say it alone but say it daily. Please.

Please don't ever let the price of a Rosary stop you from owning the Rosary you want. 5, 10, 15, 20 decade Rosary. Whatever you want. If your fortunate enough to be online then it's absolutely easy to get the Rosary of your choice either for free or less than $15. I realize that $15 is a lot of money for some of us. So just percivere and you'll find a free one. I haven't found a free 20 decade one yet but I found a close one. I also don't like to advertise for sites but for the Rosary I'll do anything to get Rosaries into people's hands. I found a beautiful 20 decade Rosary for $12 at
rosarycard.net/5mm-Faux-Pearl-20-Decade-Rosary-p-16476.html
They are Faux pearls and it’s just beautiful. I’m partial to all Rosaries and think the cheapest I’ve ever seen are most beautiful. But for those of you that want a 20 decade Rosary you will be hard to find one less expensive than this. I’m getting one myself. I’ll keep looking though. I know I’ll find a free one. And if I do make sure you need it for free. If you don’t they usually ask for a minimal donation anyway. I hope this helps the person that started this thread. And as far as those asking why you need a 20 decade Rosary. I say 10 Rosaries a day and it’s nice to say it on one Rosary where I can pause and come back to where I left off. I love them. I love them all. Thanks and God Bless You All. Say the Rosary daily and help keep world peace and save souls from hell.
