20 or 15 decade Rosary for you?

I recently discovered the Rosary, and have always thought its the 4 sets of mysteries. That is the literature given out with the free Rosary beads at my Parish.

Reading another thread, some folks still pray the 3 set mysteries.

Why do some not add the 4th set of mysteries? Is it cultural?

the luminous mysteries do not get the public relations they deserve

a beautiful “gap-filler” between the joyous & sorrowful
 
The luminous mysteries are probably my least favorite. That being said, I really like them. It’s hard to find complaints about the Rosary!
 
St. John Paul II added the luminous mysteries which we normally pray on Thursdays.

For my daily Rosary I always include the luminous mysteries on Thursdays. If I do a rosary novena, it’s in addition to my daily Rosary. For these ones I do just the original 3 (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious).

AFAIK nothing says you can’t include luminous for a Rosary Novena, I think it’s a personal preference.

Usually 15 for me, but that’s sheer force of habit and laziness. I try to incorporate the Luminous Mysteries when I can. One of the greatest experiences in my life was praying the Luminous Mysteries during a candle-lit procession at night in Lourdes. Of course, I slipped on a slug on the way back, which sort of spoiled the fun, but still… 😃
 
I usually say 15 decades since I am apart of the Rosary Confraternity and that is one of the requirements (I do daily, but the expected should be once a week.) I do find the Luminous mysteries good to meditate on them, but I don’t prefer them I will say them though.

(Off-topic and please no one help derail this thread by what I am going to post.) To those who say the Luminous mysteries are “modernist” I want them badly to start using the hidden mystery which is the 2nd coming/Final Judgment if they want to be uber traditional and stop using the mystery to replace it (The Coronation) since it was about 500 years ago since the 2nd coming/Final Judgment was replaced by the Coronation.
 
I’ve included the luminous mysteries ever since I began praying the rosary.

I’ve never thought of having a “favorite” set of mysteries, but the luminous are definitely special to me.

I am so going to do that: it seems incredibly appropriate and I think it will be good for me. And I am not particularly traditional 😉

Would you have a link to the hidden mystery? I get a lot of ‘noise’ when googling it.

If you look at things like the current Manual of Indulgences, it seems clear that the Rosary is understood to contain three sets of mysteries.
The rosary is a prayer formula consisting of fifteen decades of Hail Marys preceded by the Our Father, during the recitation of which we piously meditate on the corresponding mysteries of our redemption.

St. John Paul II added a fourth set of Rosary meditations in 2002 or so, which a person could either decide to pray or to not pray. They are optional, and are not part of the “official” Dominican Rosary.

Now, some people believe the Rosary was directly given to St. Dominic by Our Lady, and that it contained only the three sets of mysteries. Thus, they prefer to pray what they see as being a divinely inspired prayer.

For my own part, I try to pray 20 decades. If it’s good enough for John Paul II, it’s good enough for me.
 
20 for me! Just did the Luminous on my drive to work! When I first read the title of this thread, I thought you meant stringing 20 decades into a single rosary strand…kinda cumbersome! I like one decade of beads and rely on my brain to keep track of the rest!
 
The Church has given us the Luminous mysteries … so I pray all 20 decades of the rosary.
