As Christians first and foremost we should only be worried of how we live and our own salvation. Leave the 2nd coming up to God for it is not ours to speculate on.I do not believe in a literal return from the sky…the idea of the return are rooted in Jewish messianic expectations of the first century…those first Christians believed he would return in their lifetime…very shortly in fact…one of the reason many scholars believe it took so long for the gospels to be written was an understanding that he wasn’t going to return as quickly as they expected…we see in Paul’s writings his early letters an…expectancy…his later writings more practical and ‘organizational’.
I realize no believing in a literal, physical return is heretical…but I’ve never shied from heresy myself
My faith is rooted in this world…to live now within the Kingdom of God…it is not necessarily “otherworldly”…NOW is the accepted time…NOW is the “day of salvation”…the Other World will take care of itself…this world is what is important…“eternity” is NOW.
