Didn’t watch the video, but Congress was – as always – wonderful and inspiring.
I went to a couple of sessions with an Australian Cistercian named Michael Casey. One was on lectio divina, the other on contemplative prayer. I came away feeling inspired to take another look at my prayer life.
A couple of sessions on RCIA were also inspiring. I’m always seeking to learn more about the process and take away ideas for making it more meaningful for our catechumens and candidates.
And overall, there’s the incredible feeling of being among 30,000 other Catholics who are on fire with their faith. Sometimes at Mass it’s easy to get into the “everyone is like me” mindset. Congress has people of all ages, races, and ethnicities. They offer programs in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. There are young adults and elderly adults, there are clergy, religious, and lay people. You see how truly universal the Church is.
I’m so fortunate to live in this archdiocese and not have to travel from across the country to take part in this event.
I can’t wait for the next one!

It’s hard to distinguish anything Catholic in this, but then again, the LA Diocese has always been “out there” when it comes to all things modernist.
But seriously, awful saxophone music, liturgical dancers, “worship spaces” and dancing deacons does not a Catholic Mass make.

Can someone please tell me why this extravaganza is so very tacky? I thought it was the year 2010, not 1969? Pray for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles; may they be freed from the new age forms of worship so prevalent in the Episcopal Church.

I’m feeling much better now.
I noticed that video on another website, and I was disgusted with it. More pagan than Catholic.
But that’s what happens when you start to tamper with the liturgy, soon everything goes (usually out of the window).

Masses like this are absolute sacrilege.
They seek to be trendy instead of setting themselves apart from the world. “Sacred” means set apart exclusively for God. To make the Mass trendy is sacrilege. I refer you to the pictures above for what a Mass actually looks like. These “Masses” are an insult to Catholics and above all to God.

I guessing that the mass was multi-linguial. LA has a large latin population and this is how they celebrate the mass. It might not be appealing to those of european extract but let’s respect the culture and how they worship our God. Catholic means universal not european. I love the chant and classical music but also love experiencing the way others worship.

So maybe we should have an “American Catholic Pentecostal Rite” separate from the “Roman Rite”, to satisfy these people. This is not the Roman Rite!.

Just because Latin American Catholics are becoming more attracted to Pentecostalism, is no justification to altar the Roman Rite, to make it look and feel more like a Pentecostal service, just to keep them Catholic. Not justified one bit!.

Whether one finds it to be wonderful does not mean it’s valid. I highly doubt that the Ordinary Form of the Mass issued by Pope Paul VI envisioned such a display as occurred at the RE Congress. Moreover, this isn’t a traditionalist issue, but rather bringing the liturgy back to having God as the center and not ourselves.
