Does anybody know why everyone’s making such a big fuss about 2012? I heard it was the end of the Mayan calendar, and so supposedly the earth is suppossed to ‘end’ then.

I think it’s a scam, like the whole ‘Y2K’ computer thing.

Any thoughts?

Does 2012 have any mention in Catholicism?
 
It isn’t the end of the Mayan calander, it is the end of a phase on the long count calander. The church does not give credibility to superstition and sensationalism.
 
That’s the year when in Ukraine , the soccer European Championship is planned to take place.

It is the endles ‘the world is ending’ junk. And when the New Year, 2013, rings in there will be another date that the weirdos will fixate on.

It used to be, before the internet, that we would get a crackpot on a street corner with a sign ‘the world is going to end…’ and now we get it in our faces on posts, videos, etc.

Just more of the same junk.

And if it does end - then guess what?!?! It will end. period.

That Y2K thing was a real joke. Us computer programmers were warned about the dates in our programs not going to handle the 20xx years and management just ignored it all until the last minute. So, what else is new? But, it certainly made for some good money contracts for us programmers to fix programs. And the news media are the worst - go figure - a bunch of left wing idiots running the show and their fear mongering just to make news - only made our paychecks fatter! 😃 And they think they are the intelligent ones. Yeah, go figure. And they have not improved one iota. These same left wing idiots running our government now?!?! :eek:

An interesting opinion. I am a computer professional, fluent in several programming languages. I can tell you that Y2K was not a joke or a scam.

Those were real, serious, problems in certain programs. I have seen and corrected many of them myself. I have tested critical control programs that failed when the clock rolled over, without correction. Certainly some people used it to sell boxes of survival gear and camouflage Bibles, but without the incredibly hard work that many thousands of people just like me put in, Jan 1, 2000 might have been very different.

I was also a computer professional over Y2K. You are absolutely right; many of our warehouse systems failed when first tested on dates after 31/12/99. A great deal of hard work rewriting and testing a lot of sofetare and hardware was done. One of the older models of internal phone exchange had to be ripped out and replaced in short order.

Y2K seemed like a damp squib because a great deal of work was done in advance.

As to 2012, that is an easy one. All we have to do is to start sacrificing people to the Mayan gods again. No doubt those who are worried about the world ending then will be the first to volunteer their hearts. 🙂

Sorry, but it was a joke. The foresight, or lack thereof, of management never ceases to amaze me. yes, there was a lot of hard work in the programming world. I never said there wasn’t, in fact I said I made a lot of money at that time fixing programs.

And you mentioned the other crazy stuff that went on during that time.

I just do not get all fearful and jumpy at that kind of stuff. If it happens then it happens. If the end of the world happens in 2012 then it happens. Ahamdinejad and other muslims (the ones who are experimenting on germ warfare who seemed to die of those germs themselves 😃 ) are working real hard to make it happen.

We will see what our world ‘leaders’ do. I find them even stupider than the managers and with even less foresight. They only worry about votes so kiss anyone’s behind. Right now I see a lot of leaders caving in to muslim demands. It has proven not to work in the past and they are about as stupid of history as they come.

Look at the UK for a prime example. They are already on the road to dhimmitude and that does not stop muslim violence. Their police run away, they are allowing anti-semitism and hate rule. They should take a closer look at Lebanon and see how appeasing muslims works (hint: it doesn’t).

You have got to love Harold, I have listened to him bash the RCC for longer than I want to remember 20-25 yrs. He used to fire me up and I would be yelling at the radio now when I am having a bad day and need a chuckle I listen to Harold.For get about the Mayans , have you checked out Garabandal visions or did any reading about Joey Lomangino?how about www.catholicplanet.com or the"end times speculation lll "thread in the back fence section?
 
2012 is the London Olympics 😃

Hopefully I will have enough money saved to fly over for a holiday then

Maybe my British mates on here will take me in 👍
