Yes netmil(name removed by moderator) it is him and it is scarier in the flesh up close and all. You should see his Holy Thursday and Good Friday productions. My sister and I walked out last year when he had a woman play the part of Christ. My mother said he was making a statement to which we replied in unison" a very bad one". Plus she was singing shrill and it sounded worse than my cats. Church is not theatre!

One way to identify a Faithful Parish

People that strive to love and serve God and also to love and serve one another.

Liberal, Conservative, Traditional, Progressive, Red State, Blue State, Latin, Vernacular, Hourly Novena to the Brown Scapular or Liturgical Line Dancing…who really gives a care? I just want to be among Catholics who love and serve the Lord and one another.

Although this sounds all loving and wonderful … it is simply not true … all proprieties must be observed - and what goes to God has to be worthy and unfortunately most is NOT!

"The Mass is a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. If all human beings in this world, and all living creatures, and all inanimate objects were collected and burned as a holocaust to the Lord, they would not confer as much praise on the Almighty as a single Eucharistic sacrifice. These earthly creatures - how numerous and excellent soever - are finite and imperfect; while the offering made in the Mass is of infinite value, for it is our Lord Jesus, the acceptable Lamb without blemish, the beloved Son in whom the Father is well pleased, and who “is always heard on account of His reverence.”
With what awe and grateful love hsould we assist at this Sacrifice? The angels were present at Calvary. Angels are present also at the Mass. If we cannot assist with the seraphic love and rapt attention of the angelic spirits, lut us worship, at least, with the simple devotion of the shepherds of Bethlehem and the unswerving faith of the Magi. Let us offer to our God the golden gift of a heart full of love and the incense of our praise and adoration, repeating often during the holy oblation the words of the Psalmist: “The mercies of the Lord I will sing forever”

Okay, let’s take each other’s hands and sing Kumbya!

JPII said no Liturigical Line Dancing, btw. Please check with the Unitarian church.

I reverence Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist and as revealed in the Community of Faith, the People of God. I do not perceive the Mass as a continuation of the Levitical priestly sacrifice of the Old Covenant, but as a celebration of the Christ Event, expressed in re-presentation to be received and re-presented in the lives of those assembled around the table of the Lord.

OK, instead substitute Meditative Mentoring or the Communal Lenten Celebration of the Sacrament of Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Counseling. http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

As for the UU’s, they may have line dancing but for these folk, liturgy is long extinct.

This is from the Catechism.

Q. 917. What is the Mass?
A. The Mass is the unbloody sacrifice of the body and blood of Christ.

Q. 918. Why is this Sacrifice called the Mass?
A. This Sacrifice is called the “Mass” very probably from the words “Ite Missa est,” used by the priest as he tells the people to depart when the Holy Sacrifice is ended.

Q. 919. What is a sacrifice?
A. A sacrifice is the offering of an object by a priest to God alone, and the consuming of it to acknowledge that He is the Creator and Lord of all things.

Q. 920. Is the Mass the same sacrifice as that of the Cross?
A. The Mass is the same sacrifice as that of the Cross.

You do understand that a priest can say a mass with no one else around, it is the same mass. There is no “expressed in re-presentation” it is actually the sacrifice redone every time.
A mass does not need “people gathered around the table”. It’s not the community, although that is a nice plus.

For those who think the concept of community is a sign of unfaithfulness, here are the owrds of our Holy Father on catechesis:

CATECHESIS AND ECCLESIAL COMMUNITY
  1. Finally, catechesis is closely linked with the responsible activity of the Church and of Christians in the world. A person who has given adherence to Jesus Christ by faith and is endeavouring to consolidate that faith by catechesis needs to live in communion with those who have taken the same step. Catechesis runs the risk of becoming barren if no community of faith and Christian life takes the catechumen in at a certain stage of his catechesis. That is why the ecclesial community at all levels has a twofold responsibility with regard to catechesis: it has the responsibility of providing for the training of its members, but it also has the responsibility of welcoming them into an environment where they can live as fully as possible what they have learned.
God bless our Holy Father and those who take him seriously.

This is correct, but to focus on the “Community” and lose the Catechism, they are just a community. Notice how it states “Finally, catechesis is closely linked with the responsible activity of the Church and of Christians in the world” It is closely linked but should not come before.
The problem is that when we put community before proper catechesis, we end up with Catholic-Lite. In my old parish, the DRE would not give absolutes of right and wrong because this was her only opportunity to get children in. She wanted them to “feel good”. Then wondered why she saw parents drop children at the door for mass. Her solution, have a movie night and “Trunk or Treat”.
Great idea! Lots of fun, but she still wasn’t getting the parents into mass.

The Christ Event?

That’s a new one to me. I’m not saying it’s bad. . .it might even be poetic (don’t start me on how I feel about modern poetry, though).

But didn’t Christ (not His event, but Christ Himself) come to fulfill the Old Testament, continuing the priesthood which had first been recognized in Melchisadek, to be, as St. Paul put it, our high priest?

Different strokes for different folks indeed.

Then I am sorry to say that if you have conceived this idea on your own … you are wrong and if it as been taught to you via The “Church” then you are indeed living proof of the effects of V2.

The Sacrifice of the Mass is identical with that of the cross, both having the same victim and High Priest - Jesus Christ.

From the words of Consecration we learn that the principal motive which our Savior had in view in instituting the Sacrifice of the Altar was to keep us (name removed by moderator)erpetual remembrance of His sufferings and death. He wished that the scene of Calvary should ever appear in panoramic view before our eyes, and that our heart, memory and intellect should be filled with the thoughts of His Passion. He knew well that this would be the best means of winning our love and exciting sorrow for sin in our soul; therefore, He designed that in every church throughout the owrld an altar should be erected, to serve as a monument of His mercies to His people, as the Children of Isreal erected amonument, on crossing the Jordan, to commemorate His mercies to His chosen people. The Mass is truly the memorial service of Christ’s Passion.

He also recently put out a document (ecclesia de Eucharist?) in which he says that the 'COMMUNION ASPECT" of our church is getting to be something other than what it is supposed to be, like people interpreting it WRONGLY??!!

All will be known, our erronious thinking, if we make it to purgatory.
Our communo is from our baptism, lived out in fidelity to the magisterium. Our baptism in Christ is more powerful than our earthly familial ties, has nothing to do with "your o.k. I’m o.k.

We are not o.k.
