Saturday’s weather is forecast to be partly cloudy, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 50s.

I feel soo sorry for you guys… don’t you agree that it’s ironic that GIA stands for “Gregorian Institute of America” ?!? And where in the world did Ave Verum Corpus come from–and why is it the meditation? Everyone knows it. Here’s a novel concept… why not just sing the communion verse for the day followed by Ave Verum Corpus or another hymn that actually praises our Eucharistic Lord? :angel1: I am sooo sorry that you have to deal with this kind of music in your parish. I’ll pray for your music program with the help of St. Cecelia and St. Pius X!

Wow. That reply took alot of guts, CatholicNerd. Your terse and harsh words must have really hit their mark to damage the heart and spirit of a kind and gentle Liturgical music minister. And why not? After all he only has several thousand dollars invested in his gift to the church. Not to mention his endless commitment to perfect his talent on the bass. And his wonderful need to share his group’s weekly offering to their Lord in Faith.
His blessed group did two accapella songs. One from the 16th century! I’d say they paid more tribute to St. Gregory than most Churches. And, if I may comment, David Clark Isele’s lamb of God would impress many Gregorian aficionados.
I’m sure you will pray for his ministry. Let’s pray that God will continue to bless him and his group with beautiful music. And let’s also pray that our Lord grant you the heart of gentleness to give praise to your peers and not to destroy the hearts of the faithful with harsh words. For the tongue can bless and destroy. Use it wisely. Seize every opportunity to show Grace.
I pray that God will bless you as you play the organ each week for Him. There is just nothing more powerful than a Mozart piece played thru a church organ!
Peace,
Terry

This exchange reminds me of a not so old joke I heard last year:

"What’s the difference between a terrorist and a liturgist?

You can negotiate with a terrorist!"

Maybe sometimes you could substitute “music director” for “liturgist.”

Then may we apply the following definition to the music director, too?

The liturgist is something God has provided for people whose lives never put them in the position of undergoing physical persecution, that they, too, may suffer in His name.

OK? 🙂 👋

God bless,

Anna

Larry M-
Are you in the choir?
PS- I’m also a southsider.
Sorta … I play bass in an ensemble with 7 vocalists, piano and bass. 🙂

You can get the name and location of the parish from the web site that’s listed with my profile here. Also, feel free to send me an e-mail if you ever want to chat church music off list.

Ok … here’s what that Sunday really sounded like.
I record music from 3 or 4 Masses each year to ensure I don’t pick up any bad playing habits

Two observations:
1 We were missing some vocalists, so the director decided to use The Blessing of Aaron as a prelude rather than Praise To God Who Reigns Above.
2. I listed the wrong psalm response. It was really Lord You Have The Words of Everlasting Life.
