2nd confession

I’m in RCIA, and a couple weeks ago, we went through first confession, and of course, Easter Vigil will be first eucharist.

Since confession was a couple weeks ago, i had a couple slips and have sinned. Should I go to confession (in which case, I’ll have two confessions before my first eucharist, which seems weird), or is the first eucharist different and thus I don’t need to go to confession just yet?

You cannot take Holy Communion if you are in a state of mortal sin. I am in the same boat as you are. I did my first confession a few weeks ago and did another one a week and a half ago. I am going one more time tomorrow so that I am sure that I am good to go before the Easter vigil and first Communion. I’m also trying to establish a pattern of going on a regular basis.

Good luck the rest of the way. We’re almost there!

If you have already been baptized , then you must go to confession again if you committed a mortal sin. If you have not been baptized, then I do not see the need even for your first confession unless it is just a practice run.

Better get in your confession today or tomorrow. All priests will not be in their parishes on Thursday morning. They will be at the cathedrals with their bishops for the Scrism mass. There will be no confession starting Thursday.

My suggestion is to contact your parish priest to make a special appointment or explain the situation to him. I am not sure if he can do it, he can also give you a general absolution if time is of the essence.

yes if you need confession again, go. In fact when preparing younger children for first communion, in this diocese we are supposed to have their first confession at least 6 months before first communion so they understand the need to confess whenever they have sinned, but don’t fall into the idea that they must confess before every reception of communion, if they have not sinned.

get moving because this is Holy Week and most parishes may have extra times tonight and possibly tomorrow, but no confession beginning evening of Holy Thursday. actually tonight is the Chrism Mass where the bishop blesses the oils that will be used to anoint you and the others entering the Church, so in this diocese you probably could not find a church with confessions tonight. Don’t worry about a “slip-up” you need only confess grave, serious, mortal sins.

You only have to confess if the “slips” are mortal sins. But there is nothing weird about confessing multiple times before your first Eucharist. Regular confessions are good for various reasons, but you do not have to rush off to confession every time you sin. Only mortal sins preclude you from being allowed to receive the Eucharist. Venial sins are forgiven in the Mass.

Only you know whether or not you need to confess before you receive. If you are not sure, confess or at least consult with your priest about whether or not your specific sins are mortal and you need to confess.

Every parish is different. In my parish, there will be confessions Wednesday night at a penance service, during the day sometime on Holy Thursday, on Good Friday after Morning Prayer, after the afternoon service of the Passion and Holy Communion and after the evening Tenebrae service, and on Holy Saturday in the afternoon. Additionally, the priest who celebrated Mass this past Saturday for Palm Sunday said he would hear anyone’s confession at any time they asked. In some other parishes, you can just forget it altogether this week. You just have to call around and see.

Each year at least one confession. Try to see can you make it.

not usually unless they have more than one priest but better inquire before hand, the extended hours for confession are usually posted on their bulletin or website.

Some parishes have Confessions on Good Friday. I know mine does. . I teach at my parish school, and sadly, haven’t been all Lent. The Good Friday line usually lasts HOURS. It’s like the old gas lines in the 70s. Supply and Demand!
