Given how they have attacked us it should not surprise them that they get similiar treatment. Eventually it should hit them that it has nothing to do with celibacy etc.
Please, don’t go through this again. :banghead:

I will be happy to not mention it, so long as they don’t mention our scandals.

I have a related thought on this…is it automatically hypocrisy to preach against a sin…even though you are caught up in it?

I mean…isn’t it a minister’s duty to preach the teachings of the faith, even when he/she isn’t living up to them themselves?

I get tangled up in my mind whenever this sort of things hits the news…maybe they were struggling against this behavior and do believe it is sinful, yet couldn’t seem to find their way out of it.

My mother in law is a chain smoker, but vehemently encouraged her kids and grandkids not to smoke, that it was bad for them, and that she’d wished she’d never started. Does that make her a hypocrite?

I really don’t know…just wondering what y’all think.

She didn’t pretend that she wasn’t a chainsmoker. It is one thing to admit you have a failing and preach against it. It is another to hide your behavior and to condem others for doing what you do.

Hi,

Awhile ago my minister was giving a sermon on something(I cant remember what it was) that upfront he told us he felt very uncomfortable preaching about. He told us before he got started that he has not mastered this sin yet. It is still a sin for him. He said he didnt feel like it was something he could say without confessing to us it is still a sin for him. I thought WOW that was humble of him being a man in authority and all.👍

Hi There

I find it strange that you mentioned as long as they don’t mention your scandals, you don’t mentioned their. So it is like they wash your dirty laundry in the public and you will return that favor to them…huh, this is not good lor !!! Is like a heart harbouring for a revenge. Did you profile mentioned you’re a priest?? I have respect for you as priest and let’s hope you aim those kind of pple which i have mentioned.

God bless

What I continue to ponder when ever I read about these men (married or unmarried) who have dedicated their lives to the preaching of God’s word **is why God’s grace has not helped them to overcome this sin. **It would seem that if God called them to teach others that He would also provide them the necessary grace to overcome this temptation.
Just thinking out loud.
God never allows us to be tempted beyond our strength. It is the lack of cooperation with His Grace that causes a person to fall grievously.

It might have to do with the person neglecting their prayer life, or for not avoiding the near occasion of sin. It is never God’s fault for not granting necessary graces. He is always there, waiting to pick us up when we cry out to Him.

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The only person in history who could have avoided hypocrasy was Jesus Christ. Sometimes the best people to warn against a particular sin are those caught up in it themselves. They’ve been there. Now, convincing a congregation of that is another matter…

What I found interesting is that both of these pastors are shamed…they haven’t used their act to promote a personal agenda, like all of a sudden they change thier minds and say “Guess what? I was wrong about gay-marriage…it is a God-given right…”

It’s quite amazing to me that they know they were wrong and are feeling the shame they brought on themselves.

I have to admit though, that I can’t help but feel some vindication that us Catholics are NOT the evil fornicators that some of these protestant groups have made us out to be…Sin truly does have its effects on us all.

Awe dont be silly, everybody knows the only pedophiles are Catholic Priests!!!

Statistics say that contrary to what the English Newspapers way, as many prod ministers as Catholic are queer.

But that does not get broadcasted, which is a shame because in reality, all demoninations together make up a very small number of ‘funny’ clergy.

In reality, the greatest offenders statistically are ‘train spotters’ and ‘weekend rail enthusiasts’ Above all, train drivers.

But that is no fun, let us pick on Catholic clergy,. Ah thats better…

Hi,

Are we trying to keep tabs on which church(protestant or catholic) has the most scandals. At least these men own up to their immorality and step down.👍

Sorry to sound mean but we dont need to talk about this stuff. We should pray for him instead. I dont talk about the priest scandals because I feel bad for them as individuals who have sinned.😦

I hope you will forgive me for being so blunt.😦
Are you joking? We should pray instead? What would that accomplish? Would God stop making people gay?

The only way to prevent this type of thing from being an issue is talking about it.

"On the videotape, which The Post was allowed to view, Barnes told church members: “I have struggled with homosexuality since I was a 5-year-old boy. … I can’t tell you the number of nights I have cried myself to sleep, begging God to take this away.”

This is quite sad. If this man had been born within the last couple decades, he wouldn’t have grown up thinking his homosexuality was a “sin” that he needed to hide his whole life, torment himself and lie to a heterosexual woman who wanted to marry a heterosexual man. Because the world is changing in spite of the Catholic Church’s position on this issue. A lot of unnecessary suffering related to this issue will end.

You seem like quite a charitable human. Jesus would be so proud of you.

The Catholic Church doesn’t regard homosexual inclination as a sin. It is when the inclinations are acted on that it is a sin.

Which is a waste of time. What the Church fails to realize is that it is fighting nature for no good reason. People are clearly born gay. If they are not harming others, there is no reason to ask them to stop acting gay.

With God’s grace it is possible to be chaste. Many Catholic homosexuals look to the organization “Courage” to support them up in their desire to be chaste.

That’s ridiculous. Why should they have to be chaste? Why don’t you be chaste? Why don’t you ask heterosexual Catholics to be chaste?

We sometimes do. It’s called chastity. No sex outside of marriage. Vows of celibacy if you are a religious.

What ever happened to “Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you”?

What strikes me is how slanted the article is.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - The founding pastor of a second Colorado church has resigned over gay sex allegations, just weeks after the evangelical community was shaken by the scandal surrounding megachurch leader Ted Haggard.
Haggard, a gay-marriage opponent, admitted to unspecified “sexual immorality” when he resigned last month as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs. A male prostitute had said he had had sex with Haggard for three years.
Two whole paragraphs and we still don’t know the name of the second pastor or his church. It’s all about Haggard, just in case people have statred to forget about him.

Finally:
On Sunday, Paul Barnes, founding pastor of the 2,100-member Grace Chapel in this Denver suburb, told his evangelical congregation in a videotaped message he had had sexual relations with other men and was stepping down. Dave Palmer, associate pastor of Grace Chapel, told The Denver Post that Barnes confessed to him after the church received a call last week.
The church board of elders accepted Barnes’ resignation on Thursday.
Now, I’m sure that pastors & priests resign for other reasons like adultery & fornication or financial malfeasance but that doesn’t make a big splash in the national media, does it?

I think that the problem of immorality in the church is a problem everywhere. I am from a fairly small town and almost every church has had something happen. Our former parish priest has been accused of molestation and has stepped down, the male youth minister at the large Methodist church was found to have molested a boy and had to resign, the Methodist minister that assisted in my wedding was found to be having an affair with a married woman in the church, and there are so many others. It is sad that there is so much of this going on in Catholic and Protestant churches alike. I think the best thing that can be done is to pray and pray that it will be better soon.

:gopray:

Homosexuals are mandated by God to remain chaste just as unmarried heterosexuals are mandated to remain chaste. The world can change all it wants, natural law will stay the same.
