Wow today is Sept 25th already, this year has just flown by.

Around here some stores have Christmas stuff out already.

We do the whole Advent thing (wreath and candles and prayers). As well our mangers come out and Mother Mary and St. Joseph and the Kings start travelling. Also we have a count down calendar with a manger scene (made of cloth).
Our parish has a Advent Wreath making event for the kids the Saturday before the 1st Sunday of Advent.

We start playing Christmas music Dec1…though DS has already started practising for the Annual Christmas concert at school:)

We bring out Christmas stuff the weekend closest to Dec 15 (though back home growing up everything came out on Dec 24, caved into the commercialism here 😉 )

We have 3 mangers a plastic one for outdoors (though not the whole scene just Joseph, Mary and Jesus), a little kiddy one that we got DS when he was little. And one that I got from my Dad.

We have always taken down decorations after Ephiphany.

Since we moved a couple months ago it is going to be a real hunt for where all the Christmas stuff is…lots of unpacked stuff in garage 😦 Luckily I know where the Advent box is.

Do you do the Advent thing at home?
When do you start playing Christmas music?
When do you decorate for Christmas?
Do you put out a manger scene?
When do you take down your Christmas decorations?

Do you do the Advent thing at home? Always did from the time the kids were born. . .Jesse tree, Advent calendar, wreath, setting up the Nativity scene starting with shepherds working our way to the baby in the manger Christmas eve and the Wise men on Epiphany. . .
When do you start playing Christmas music? Personally I annoy virtually everybody by playing it virtually year-round. . .no, not every single day, but if I feel like humming “Silent Night” in July, it’s all good. Seriously, for Christmas I like to start the music the first Sunday of Advent and I’ll keep going until Epiphany.
When do you decorate for Christmas? Side decorations I’ll start in Advent but the family tradition was to do the TREE on Christmas eve before we went to Midnight Mass. Everybody else would have trees up the day after Thanksgiving, it seemed. Of course we KEEP ours up until Epiphany. It’s a German tradition according to my mother.
Do you put out a manger scene? I surely do. I knitted it myself when my oldest was a baby! (Knitted Mary, Joseph, Jesus, manger, shepherds and sheep, and Wise Men. Took months but so worth it!)
When do you take down your Christmas decorations? The tree on Epiphany, as well as the Christmas card garland. I’ll let the nativity scene stay up another week after (to the Baptism of Our Lord) just so I can enjoy the Wise Men a bit.

Do you do the Advent thing at home?Yes. I have a wreath that my mother gave me when I moved to Atlanta.
When do you start playing Christmas music?Oh goodness…all year round! Nathan loves Christmas music.
When do you decorate for Christmas? We don’t do a tree or any other of the more traditional decorations. However, we don’t have any kids so there really isn’t a need yet.
Do you put out a manger scene? Yes! We have the Willow Tree manger set that was a gift from my parents last Christmas.
When do you take down your Christmas decorations?Usually a few days after for fear the cat or dog may ruin them.

Do you do the Advent thing at home? Yes.

When do you start playing Christmas music? weekend after Thanksgiving

When do you decorate for Christmas? We start the weekend after TG, but it takes another week to finish.

Do you put out a manger scene? Yes, It is a family heirloom, my grandparents used it, then my folks, and now Debbie and I have it. It will oneday go to my son and his family.

When do you take down your Christmas decorations? Between Christmas Day and NY.__________________

Do you do the Advent thing at home?
**Yes, my mom found one that has the nativity scene. Before that I used one that I made. **

When do you start playing Christmas music?
By Thanksgiving I’m ready for the music and have most likely been singing/ playing Christmas music already.

When do you decorate for Christmas?
Black Friday or sometime that weekend.

Do you put out a manger scene?
Absolutely, it get’s the best seat in the house. Right on top of the entertainment center, where everyone can see it.

When do you take down your Christmas decorations?
**I try to hold out until Epiphany. If we don’t make it that long than it comes down no earlier than New Years. **

** Do you do the Advent thing at home?
Yep… made my own wreath years ago… think it might be time to make another. I used eucalyptus for color and scent and wrapped in ribbon that had an amazing nativity scene on it. Before dinner every night during advent we pray together and one of the kids gets to light the candle… they stay lit during dinner and we eat by candlelight.**
When do you start playing Christmas music?
Thanksgiving day… never before… and always spiritual not secular.
When do you decorate for Christmas?
Anytime after the first Sunday after Thanksgiving… I hate decorating early… I prefer somewhere between the 15th and 20th
Do you put out a manger scene?
It is out all year except lent… it has a prominent place in my living room and it is pretty big…
When do you take down your Christmas decorations?
Jan 6th or the closest Sunday after that

Do you do the Advent thing at home?
No–we need to.
When do you start playing Christmas music?
Day after Thanksgiving…I love the old classics…👍
When do you decorate for Christmas?
I usually decorate the house the weekend after Thanksgiving because I get a four day weekend and it’s just easier to do it then! 👍
Do you put out a manger scene?
Yup–I have a gorgeous Fontanini set.
When do you take down your Christmas decorations?
I usually take them down for New Years because, again, I get a long weekend. 🙂

Dollar Store read your OP, they are way ahead of you. cant shop for tripping over Christmas stuff. Halloween stuff has been there since before school started. I’ll be ready to think about Christmas about 2nd week of Advent, too much going on until then.

decorations are an 8" pre-trimmed artificial tree and a crib set from Mexico (they are stored under the hall table so just have to bring out and set up). Cards are covered by e-greetings to my address book. family gifts already covered at our July celebration, and each family will get same thing in January, renewal of membership to cultural institution of their choice (which is good at similar outfits in other cities they visit). MIL has her gift, her monthly phone-internet-cable service which we pay. done. will send personalized Advent calendars to each grandchild before Thanksgiving.

don’t have advent wreath per se at home, not enough room, just change color of pillar candle each week on the altarcito

Here (at the bottom)is our wreath from last year.

Do you do the Advent thing at home? Yes. It has always been a tradition in our home.

When do you start playing Christmas music? While I’m cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Just classic type of Christmas music. Not the more modern stuff.

**When do you decorate for Christmas?**We put up the tree and the lights about a week before but nothing else. We let “Santa” do the rest of the decoration. It really adds to the excitement on Christmas morning when the kids come down and see all the lights on and the decorations up and just more impressive. Believe me “Santa”… goes to bed tired and has to get up really early too… must have coffee!

**Do you put out a manger scene?**We have always had one. I am always on the prowl for a nice nativity set. I have a couple in different spots in the house.

When do you take down your Christmas decorations? We take them down about the second week of January or so.
