3 personal questions for catholics

1] what does it mean to you that Jesus died on cross as savior?
Simple answer; God loves me.
God humbled himself and became man; God loves me.
God showed us how to live a proper life; God loves me
God became the lamb to take away the sins of the world; God loves me.
Simple answer; God loves me.

2] What is faith in god/faith in Jesus mean to you? What does it mean to put faith in Jesus and god?.
It means to trust God in our daily life and give ourselves over to his will (not ours).

3] Ultimately at your day of judgement, what will you look to in hopes of receiving heaven?
I look to the friendship I have with the Lord and I hope that relationship continues until the end.

To me, it means that life has a reason, and thanks be to God that he is greater than our shameful, and lacking selves. Knowing his love is so complete so as to die to bear for us what we are not capable of doing ourselves.

To me putting trust & faith in God means that we acknowledge our inadequacies and that we live a life “Outside of ourselves”,building character within ourselves, by Living the life Christ has laid out for us to follow. We think of the “good of the whole”, not just of our own needs and wants, but of all humankind as Jesus would, and to emulate and trust Jesus through the journey.
  1. Ultimately at your day of judgement, what will you look to in hopes of receiving heaven?
My first hopes would be… to enjoying being free from the stain of sin, To be able to love and stand before God without shame. To be complete and still in his presence. AND to see my husband again, He just passed May, 2014. God is carrying me, for I cannot seem to do it on my own.

I’ve got a little bit of an issue with your phrasing.
  1. What Jesus Christ did is not a subjective mattof of personal opinion as to what it means to me, That way of looking at things as a subjective matter of personal opinion really takes away from what Jesus Objectively accomplished by His Sacrifice on at Calvary. Jesus Christ, who is God incarnate, came down to the Earth and offered Himself as the sacrificial lamb for the Salvation for each and every person. This is an objective reality, not a subjective ‘feeling’ about what it means to you.
  2. As I pointed out above, Jesus is God, the second person of the Blessed Trinity. I know that Jehovah’s Witness don’t believe that Jesus is God, but I thought Baptists had a correct knowledge of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
  3. We are saved by God’s free gift of Grace Alone, without which no 0ne can be saved. ( Paul says so twice in Ephesians Eph 2:5 . . .by grace you have been saved. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved . . . .)
I’m sorry, I don’t mean to embarrass you, but you seem to be completely misguided as to what the Catholic Faith teaches. May I ask where you got your notions at to what Catholic Church teaching is?
I would suggest you look into what the Authentic Catholic Teaching is. If you are honestly looking for the truth of what Catholic teaching is, you can get a Catechism of The Catholic Church. It gives the actual teachings of The Church and the Scripture bases for all of it. You can get one right here: shop.catholic.com/catechism-of-the-catholic-church-pocket-edition.html?___store=default. This will dispel any false notions that you obviously have as to Catholic Teaching. I hope you will take this in the spirit of charity in which it is offered.

What I think he may be trying to find out is if we Catholics claim to have a “personal relationship with Jesus” that he believes saves us. If I am wrong, jjsmity, I do apologize.

He hasn’t told us exactly why he is asking us such questions, in this thread and at least one other like it, but I can think of 4 possible reasons, if not more. However to be fair to jjsmity, I’ll keep them to myself for now. 😉

I have to agree with what everyone else has said. But for my own;
  1. that Life is possible, otherwise it is not.
  2. that I am given strength, hope and joy, and greater ability to love others as well as consolations from God along the way.
  3. I will follow Jesus on the day of Judgement. I will say to Him ‘if you leave me, can I come too… I can always stay…’. Basically one wants to be with Jesus (in every aspect) at the end of this life.

I would say that when I thought about your questions, the idea that kept coming into my head was simply the prayer I’ve been meditating on for a while:

“Oh my Jesus,
forgive us our sins,
Save us from the fires of Hell,
And lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those who have most need of thy mercy.
Amen”

I don’t know if that helps, but it seems to be the closest thing I can articulate as an answer to these questions, from my current point of view.

That is the Fatima Prayer taught to three children by the Virgin Mary who appeared to them over several months in 1917 in Portugal.

But, there are many great prayers in the Church. One I pray before Mass and before reading Scriputure is this:

COME, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
Send forth Thy spirit and they shall be created.
And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. (Ps. 104:30)

Let Us Pray.

O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant us by the same Spirit
to have a right judgment in all things
and ever to rejoice in His consolation.

After reading Scripture I pray:

that I may not choose to know anything among men but Jesus,
and Him crucified. (1 Cor. 13:8; 2:2.)

I pray Thee, loving Jesus that
as Thou hast graciously given me
to drink in with delight the words of Thy knowledge,
so Thou would mercifully grant me
to attain one day to Thee,
the fountain of all Wisdom
and to appear forever before Thy face. Amen.

He loves us more than we can understand.

Pray always to the Father for more faith. Knowing He has included us in His family as adopted sons and daughters in His Kingdom. The spotless Lamb.

Prayer to the Father to increase my faith in the family of God; for His adoption of us through His Son.
