Peace be with you

You feel God´s call, a vocation and you´re seriously considering joining a mendicant order. What´s the age limit ?

You are married. Would such order accept a divorced postulant ?

You have debts. Would that order accept such a postulant ?

Thank you

Not only does this depend on the order but it could also depend on the province of the order.

You would have to go though the annulment process and have a favorable outcome to this but even given that some orders might disqualify you.

Again, depends on the order and maybe even the province.

As others have said, you need to check with the order itself. If the answer is unfavorable in one province then check with others.

But considering the obstacles you’ve outlined, you might consider the secular or third order or lay versions of the order.

First thing, get a spiritual director.

Second, start the annulment process.

If you can not get an annulment then you can not enter religious life.

My marriage was a civil one. Divorce here costs you about 30 € and an hour of your time, so that´s not the real issue.

Debts ? It´s only money…
Of course I´d never ask the Lord to sort that problem for me, but my faith and my vocation are strong. Nothing is impossible for Him.

My spiritual director is a Franciscan canon regular, I´ll ask his advice.

Thanks all

I understand that an annulment might be “easy” to get in your case but most vocation directors will not want to seriously talk with you until you have one. Also there are some religious communities/orders who will not even accept you with an annulment.

As for debts, the only debts that some religious communities/orders will only accept student loan debt, no other debt will be acceptable.
