The EWTN “Doctors of the Church” program on him was a great way for me to learn about him.
Now if I could just find the one on St Catherine of Siena streaming somewhere…
The man was a genius. IIRC, he wrote something like 80 books – by hand, of course – no word processors, no typewriters, not even manual ones. Just dipping quill into ink over and over, and every once in a while having to reshape the quill or break in a new one. I can’t even get to the bottom of a page, using a pen, without forgetting what it was I wanted to say at the top of the page.
He was the Fr. Gabriele Amorth of his age. By that I mean he was renown as the best exorcist of his age and one of the most effective exorcists ever. He promoted a prayer that he stated is the line of scripture most hated by demons, and which I have found to be exceptionally powerful when feeling oppressed:
Arise, O Lord, and scatter Your enemies
And let those who hate You flee before Your face.
It’s the prayer Moses would say every day when leading the Israelites through the desert.
