I was 11 and my best friend’s parents took us. I don’t remember anything about waiting to get tickets or seats.

But I do remember sitting there watching the movie and loving it.

Oh, yeah, he loved it the second night. In fact, he went into a Star Wars phase that lasted for years—had to have all the movies, all the books, all the toys…

I think it might very well have contributed to his present occupation as a computer programmer.

I was 7 also. I didn’t see it on opening night. I laugh to just think if I would’ve asked by parents for that!

When the original was re-released in theatres for the anniversary, I went back on opening night to see it. It had not lost any of its magic.

Same here! I even went back BY MYSELF and saw them each a couple more times.

I think the thing that impressed me most was hearing Star Wars. When that battle cruiser went overhead at the beginning the sound moved with it!

I hear that! (no pun intended) The opening note… the GREATEST opening note in all of history! It gives me goose-bumps everytime I hear it! My wife bought me the soundtrack to the first movie. It was pretty cool because the CD itself has the Death Star etched into it.

I was 16 (you young whippersnappers). I could drive then. I went to see it 9 times the first week in the old family Ford Grenada. I had never seen anything like it. I took as many friends and family as I could to see it. I even took my beloved Grandmother to see it. She liked it - or at least she told me so out of love.

Because the story arch took many years to complete it was something I could share with my own kids now. Just a fantastic space journey with a good vs evil story. Easily shared with kids and lessons about how doing the right thing is not always easy or popular - but its always the right thing to do.

Loved it. Why aren’t there more stories like it? No sex or foul language - just good characters fighting their demons and good winning over evil. Need more of those.

I was 6 when the original Star Wars came out.

The most distinctive memory for me of that first viewing is that when the Death Star exploded, I exclaimed, “Yay, they blew up Darth Vader’s ship!” and someone had to correct me.

I love all the movies in the series though I agree that the prequels aren’t as strong as the originals.

I went to Star Wars when it opened. I (don’t hate me) fell asleep .
I watched it twenty years later with my husband, and loved it .
Today, our 14 year-old is a total Star Wars-and-Trek freak :bowdown: , and she’s indoctrinated our 10 year-old as well :bowdown: :bowdown: .
So there ya go - some of us are just late-bloomers, I guess.

I didn’t fall asleep when I first saw it. But every time since, when the Millennium Falcon reaches the death star, my eyelids get pretty heavy. :yawn: Next thing I know, the heroes are getting medals.

What I do remember from the first time I saw SW was that, living in a rural part of upstate NY, it was about 4 months before the local theater got the movie. I was 10, and it was not fun waiting that long while it seemed everyone else in the world got to see it before we did.

Although you didn’t have to worry about spoilers telling you what happened since there was no internet then. Nowadays, the reviews will tell you the whole story before you even get to find out the showtimes.

That’s true. However, I do remember waiting in a very long line to see Return of the Jedi, and folks were driving by shouting out spoilers.

At the time, many were. But looking back it was just fools pulling silly pranks.I doubt if it made any impact on anyone in line or ruined it for them. No, what ruined it was the sound going out half way through the movie.

It didn’t faze me though. Since I read the book beforehand (I was, and still am, kind of a nerd), I knew what to expect.

Wow, that’s bad. I’ve never been to the movies when the sound or the film broke. Everybody else I know has, so I guess I’m just lucky.
