It’s ‘complete anachronism squared’ that got me - not ‘Nazi Act’ but ‘Neo-Nazi Act’.

It’s supported to some degree in Russia, so I would agree.

The suppression of Catholicism in England makes it much harder to be as supportive of the concept there, though.

It’s one of the difficulty with religious liberty. “Error has no rights” – or so it was said at one time. But there’s also a prudential path to take.
 
Why? I think it highly appropriate. I suggest Cromwell invented Nazism. The mass displacement of persons. The enslavement into poverty, the mass marches of death in which many weak and old died, slave labour, killing enmasse, theft of property of the target population. That is exactly what the Nazi’s did.

If it is wrong to call Cromwell a nazi, then perhaps it would be more correct then to call Hitler a 'neo-cromellian.

Folk talk about the Spanish Inquisition. Cromwell killed more folk in two weeks than the Inquistion in 500-years!

A very interesting idea - perhaps you might help out those of us who might find it confusing by explaining to us Cromwell’s understanding of Gleichschaltung as it developed during the later years of the Civil War?

On the other hand, you might just look up the ‘Thirty Years War’ (during which some areas of Germany lost half their population) and discover that Cromwell was pretty much a man of his times.

I was wondering about that. When Ireland was a powerful and aggressive country a couple of millennia back, the level of violence and exploitation seems to have been very low, but it could just have been because the times were different. I ought to read more about what was going on elsewhere while Greece and Rome were getting the headline coverage.

Ireland was never a very powerful ‘country’ - even the idea of ‘country’ beyond a few centuries ago, is anachronistic.
 
In memory of the Irish victims of Slavery
In the 12 year period during and following the Confederation revolt, from 1641 to 1652, over 550,000 Irish were killed by the English and 300,000 were sold as slaves, as the Irish population of Ireland fell from 1,466,000 to 616,000. Banished soldiers were not allowed to take their wives and children with them, and naturally, the same for those sold as slaves. The result was a growing population of homeless women and children, who being a public nuisance, were likewise rounded up and sold. But the worse was yet to come.
