Hi everyone,
it seems to me that the next step I take on my journey is to do consecration to Jesus through Mary. It has been recommended a number of times to do this using the book “33Days To Morning Glory” especially since a number of people have told me St Louie de Monfort can be a pretty challenging read and I’m not exactly a literary guru. The uncertainties I have about doing this is that I have been told in a way it’s like taking a vow. This summer has been a pretty rough spiritually but fruitful. This summer I have had a lot of trouble praying because I can’t keep my mind on track while I’m praying so it ends up that I’m just saying words and not really praying so I’ve pretty much felt like a fish out of water especially when it feels like I can’t pray about my struggles. Anyways I was wondering if anyone here has done the consecration using this book and given my current status quo if it’d be a good idea to start. I definitely think I need to do this consecration but if it’s like taking a vow and my prayer life hasn’t been going so great lately if I should wait until I snap out of it. Or conversely if you think that doing this might help me snap out of it.
thanks in advance,
Mike

First of all, we ALL suffer distractions in prayer. Do not allow that to discourage you. Every time you become aware that you have been distracted just go back to focusing on your prayer. The Lord recognizes that you are choosing Him over the distraction.

I have done the consecration using the book “33 Days to Morning Glory” . The insights in it from the saints is so beneficial in inspiring me.

Perhaps you can speak with a priest who has a great devotion to Our Lady and express your concerns to him?

No, it is not like taking a vow under pain of sin.

May our Lord and His holy Mother lead and guide you!

do the following if you can

wear a blessed miraculous medal.

say the act of consecration to our lady of the miraculous medal.

say the rosary, wear the brown scapular, practice the first saturday devotion.

say the prayers of preparation, particularly ave maris stella for a week or so before beginning the consecration.

say a novena to st. louis de montfort.

dont worry if you do not feel devotion. one day, pray from your heart telling jesus your difficulties.

and remember, consecration is not like taking a vow under the pain of sin.

i have done the consecration, if you can understand the bible, you can understand st. louis.

I would like to thank both of you for your replies.
Knowing that it’s not like taking a vow under the pain of sin certainly alleviates a lot of the concern I had about this.

Peace and may God bless both of you.

you’re welcome and i would like to clarify that i did not do the 33 days but the total consecration.

I have done both, the St. Louis Marie de Montfort consecration several times over the years, and more recently the “33 Days to Morning Glory”, which enhances the first one by St. Louis, as it shares the beautiful insights of St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and St. John Paul II. (As well as St. Louis Marie de Montfort.)

Both of those have been such a great help in my spiritual life. More and more I have heard priests promote both of those books.

Although I am a devout Catholic and say the Rosary (but not daily, yet), I had a problem with St. Louis de Monfort. I stopped reading his book when he brought up being slaves to our Holy Mother since we are not even slaves to Her Son, Jesus Christ. I was eager to absorb the book, but this part troubled me. Any comments?

Being a “slave to Mary” means that you give everything to Jesus through Mary, the perfect disciple.

In so doing you are surrendering everything to her Son, from whom all graces come.

Our Blessed Mother was given extraordinary graces for our sake, from the first moment of her conception.
And, she grew in that grace in all the virtues with the consent of her free will. And a sword of suffering pierced her heart.

She, by herself, is nothing, and she knows it, due to her great humility.

Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
