35y.o. wanting to do Confirmation

Hello,

I was born and raised a Catholic, was Baptised and had my First Holy Communion. But then we moved around so much when I was young that I never got confirmed. I would like to do so now but I have run into some difficulties. I was baptised at one of the Catholic churches in Anchorage, Alaska but upon contacting each, none of them have any record of the event. I have spoken to my parents, grandparents and aunts who were all present (who have conflicting names of the location as well!) but none of the leads come to anything. I have contacted the Archdiocese of Anchorage and nothing there.

I am running into a wall!! I have been told by my current church that I would need proof of baptism but cannot get it! Any thoughts??

The church/location where the baptism was performed aside, would you be able to get your parents, grandparents, or aunts to testify that they witnessed your baptism?

According to Canon Law:
To prove the conferral of baptism, if prejudicial to no one, the declaration of one witness beyond all exception is sufficient or the oath of the one baptized if the person received baptism as an adult (*CIC *876).
Also, have you tried getting in touch with either of your Godparents (or sponsors), who should have been present for your baptism?

Proof of baptism can sometimes be the statement of someone who witnessed it. Explain your situation to the pastor of your local Catholic church. He should be able to guide you.

1. Contact the parish in which you received your first Holy Communion.
2. Ask your current pastor for an affidavit form – one of your relatives who were present can complete it and sign it (notarized or signed in the presence of a priest I think).
3. If that is not acceptable to your pastor, perhaps you can be “conditionally baptized.” You cannot be re-baptized, but your priest or deacon can administer a conditional baptism: “If you are not yet baptized, I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
