I have had the 4 volume LOTH for several months but have just got the courage to retry praying the Divine Office after years of not having done so.

I have tried using the search engine but this question only brought up a reply for Christian prayer and not the 4 vol.

When it says Concluding Prayer and asks if the prayer is directed to the Father or the Son. I am assuming this is for prayer said in a religious community not found in the volume? Is this correct? Should we then just end by praying… Let us praise the Lord. --And give him thanks. ?

Thank you for your responses. I will be posting more as I continue praying the different hours.

Blessed be God forever.

Yes, it’s for using alternate texts not in the volume.

The appropriate ending is always included in the actual prayer in the LOTH volumes.

Say the prayer, then say Amen.

The concluding acclamation “Let us praise… And give him…” is optional and can be said or omitted as you please when praying in private - although it is mandatory when praying in a group.

Thank you Spyridon for your response. 😊 It is so wonderful to be praying the Divine Office again.

The Lord bless you.

It is the Supreme Prayer of the Church. Only the Holy Mass outranks the Divine Office in efficacy.

The Office literally sanctifies time and space itself as well as the entire Church and world.

Yes… I was reading this same fact that the Divine Office is 2nd to the mass just last night. 😊

Indeed…beautiful and comforting. We are all praying the same sacred words in unison. 😊

On pages 1063-64 of Volume #2, it tells how to end the prayer before the “Amen”. Then the acclamation, “let us praise the Lord. And give him thanks” is added when used in communal celebration of the office. A communal celebration could be a parish community (my parish does this one day a week after Mass) or a religious community.

The Divine Office iPhone app has a feature that shows all of the people praying the LoTH using the app all over the world as dots on a globe. It’s awesome to see the community in prayer!

For Morning and Evening prayer in private I say “May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life.”

I don’t have an iphone but seeing where all over the world people are praying the office is wonderful! 😊
