Hi,

Anyone out here either participated in the previous cities where they’ve held a 40 Days for Life campaign or working towards having a campaign in your town this year, when it plans to go National for the first time?

For those who don’t know what 40 Days for Life is, you can get more information at: www.40DaysforLife.com or just go ahead and register to participate in the webcast or telecast next Wednesday, by going to www.ProlifeBreakthrough.com .

I’m having some trouble getting a committee together in my area and I’d be interested in hearing what others are encountering.

It’s a good idea but the prayer should be at adoration not at clinics.

I’ve done a lot of research that suggests that if all those people who do things like this would pray in the silence of their hearts and show graphic photos at the abortion mills and information that women can use such as a large phone number or website that many lives would be saved.

Religion unfortunately turns these women off when they need it the most, its a psycological thing based on the woman’s mental acuity and emotions.

I know this sounds probably contrary to what you think might be best its easy to because we aren’t putting ourselves in the place of these women who society has already failed.

Good idea, wrong venue I think.

anybody else out there involved in the upcoming campaign?
I signed up in my area but no one registered when it opened. I’m not much of a leader. Are you organizing in your area?

I have joined in our city. Is anyone else going to be involved?
I can’t wait to begin!!

Yep my young adult group here in Houston is going to do it. i think we are going to do like 10pm to 1am shift.

40 days for life is 40 days of continous prayer in front of planned parenthood or other abortion clinics. Fasting and prayer are the keys to the campaign so even if you can’t be at the clinics then please pray for all the babies who will be aborted, have been aborted, their mothers and for our politicians/doctors/soceity to change their mind about abortion and allow every child that God has created to be allowed the chance of life.

For more infomation go here.

Ok, thanks.

Thanks for the welcome!

40 days of prayer, fasting and a peaceful vigil outside of abortion providers
It takes place from September 26th to November 4th

I’m in on the planning in our area.
PLEASE say some prayers that it is a success.

Oh, the most exciting part is that Father Pavone is coming to our town in the middle of the 40 days!

just got a chance to review package given to me last week by a college student, he is doing it with campus ministry, so I am about to call him to coordinate something with CCD/Confirmation/youth group and see if Parish wants to jump in. sounds fantastic.

I was lucky enough to get to participate in the very first 40 Days in Bryan/College Station. I’m helping with the one in Houston this Fall, which will be awesome. If anyone out there is in the H-Town area go to www.houstoncoalition.com to sign up. It’s going to be great!

don’t know if there is another thread on this, if there is I can’t find it, but I thought I responded and want to bump this so the links are on tap. was contacted by campus ministry group at college in our town who will be participating and want to speak to parishioners. they are looking for venue for the prayer vigil(s), so we will have some prayer times here. Can’t do the whole 40 day vigil because of the school, but will organize something, and they will speak to the parish, and to various parish organizations, including Confirmation class, and get leaders to implement various aspects of the project. What is most exciting for me is that this sounds like finally we will have a nucleus and support for a real, active, pro-life outreach in this parish. huzzah, oh happy day.

just realized we have duplicate threads, should stay in social justice so it does not get lost

This fall, from September 26 – November 4, our community will be uniting with more than 80 cities in 32 states for the largest simultaneous pro-life mobilization in history – the nationwide 40 Days for Life campaign.

Faithful believers across the country are praying that this effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in America.

40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign that over the past three years has generated measurable lifesaving results in every community where it has been conducted including College Station, Texas; Green Bay, Wisconsin; Dallas, Texas; Kitsap County, Washington; Houston, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Madison, Wisconsin. Some cities have reported as much as a 28% drop in local abortion numbers, numerous post-abortive women (and men) finding healing and forgiveness, and from several hundred to over 1,000 new people getting involved with local lifesaving ministry efforts.
40 Days for Life is an ecumenical, faith-based effort made up of three key components:
• Prayer and Fasting: inviting people of faith throughout our city to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion
• Peaceful Vigil: standing for life through a 40-day peaceful public witness outside the local abortion providers.
• Community Outreach: taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of our city through media efforts, church presentations, door-to-door advocacy, and public visibility.

40 Days for Life has been endorsed by many prominent national leaders and a sheet featuring many of these endorsements is included with this letter, along with a flyer about the campaign. To learn more about the plans for the nationwide effort, you can also visit: www.40daysforlife.com

Consider finding the group in your area and joining in on this effort. God will not be outdone.

There are already 2 threads on this, one in social justice, one someplace, spirituality I think, hope they get merged, it is not really belong in secular news.

Actually, the Reno/Tahoe 40 Days for Life Campaign will be held in churches around the region, with many Catholic Churches dedicating their Eucharistic Adoration hours to the intention of ending abortion, and other Christian churches joining the effort through coming together for an hour of prayer.

So, while we are doing as you suggest, we are not doing so because we believe there is something inherently wrong with standing in prayer outside the clinic. Shortly before 40 Days for Life was announced, the folks in Sacramento who have been doing sidewalk counseling and clinic prayer held their first ever Sidewalk Counselors Training Workshop. They had no idea how many people might show up, and they had 50 people attend the Sat am program (which was excellent btw). Immediately following (love how the Lord works), word of 40 Days for Life came out. Several weeks later they held their first planning meeting, and over 80 people showed up!

In Sacramento, and some other cities around the country, the work being down outside the clinics is very effective. They are present outside the clinic to bring Christ to these dark corners. They ensure that every encounter they have with a scared young woman is peaceful and loving, for True Love cannot be found inside the clinic.

However, in some areas there are those who come to the clinic, bringing their anger at what occurs inside. These are the ones who are least likely to be effective. But please, do not judge all who stand to pray outside a clinic as though they all come with the same baggage or have the same results. There are many who do this work as a Corporal work of MERCY (not a work of condemnation). And this makes all the difference.

God Bless,

CARose

Although I think 40 days for life is a missed opportunity to make a bigger difference in this case the sheer number of bodies present will lead to some lives saved which is great, but when this is over the numbers will slowly fizzle out to where they were before hand. Imagine if each of the people at 40 days all over the country held a graphic sign of the truth to teach the people driving by and inform the women going in… the fruits would yield bushes of babies saved, women healed, and souls converted to the truth!

Okay maybe your not understanding the whole point of the 40 days for life. It’s about specifically praying for the souls of the aborted babies and their mothers and being a seen force to the community that abortion is wrong for our society. Do you not think that seeing people outside a clinic for 24 hours a day for 40 days does not have an effect? It does. Yes after the 40 days there will be less people on hand everyday but it doesn’t mean less prayer. Those of involved ,prayer for the children and mothers everyday in our own personal life.

Your idea about the signs might work if people actually paid attention to a sign and didn’t dismissive everything. Believe me in Houston, you get very use to billboards and people with signs all the time. You just stop looking and just drive along but seeing real people has an effect. When i drive by the some of the consulate i see the peaceful protestors doing mediation on the side walks. It gets my attention much more and makes me wonder what are the protesting.

You can post or pass out all the information you want but seeing and being able to talk to someone who treats you like a person and recognize your feelings and fears has an effect on women who are thinking or approaching the clinic to get an abortion. Don’t dismiss the power of hands on communication versus printed communication.
